Inmarsat to Move Shipping Comms from Netherlands to Greece

Cruise Passenger Falls Overboard in Singapore Strait

Emergency responders are searching for a cruise ship passenger who reportedly fell overboard in the Singapore Strait.At about 7:50 a.m. on Monday, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Singapore was notified that a passenger onboard a Cyprus-flagged passenger vessel, Spectrum of the Seas, had fallen overboard while enroute into Singapore.MRCC Singapore, operated by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), is coordinating the search and immediately issued navigational safety broadcast to vessels in the Singapore Strait and vessels in port to keep a lookout for the missing person and report any sightings to MRCC Singapore.The cruise ship is currently berthed in Singapore and is supporting investigations.The 169…

ABS Approves Fully Autonomous Ship Framework

The design of a pioneering, fully autonomous ship framework has received approval in principle (AIP) from ABS.The fully autonomous ship framework, named APExS-auto (Action Planning and Execution System for full autonomous), was developed by Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK), Monohakobi Technology Institute (MTI) and Japan Marine Science Inc. (JMS) as part of the fully autonomous ship program MEGURI 2040.ABS worked with MTI and JMS to review the APExS-auto framework in accordance with the ABS Requirements for Autonomous and Remote-Control Functions.

ClassNK Releases Strength Guidelines Based on Latest Wave Data

ClassNK has released "Guidelines for Direct Load Analysis and Strength Assessment (Edition 3.0)" following the revision of IACS Recommendation No. 34 earlier this year.The guidelines specify the requirements for conducting hull strength assessments based on the latest wave data.IACS Recommendation No. 34 provides advice on sea states as well as wave spectrum, spreading, heading distribution and vessel speed. Its wave statistics are intended for use in the design of sea-going ships above 90 meters (295 feet), including the effect of bad weather avoidance.
