Crowley Doubles Warehouse Space in Jacksonville

Crowley has moved to a new 70,000 sq ft warehouse at Jaxport's Dames Point location, minutes from the company's headquarters. With this move, the company has doubled its north Florida warehouse space. This new location at 3700 Port Jacksonville Parkway has 20 dock doors, 30-ft clear-height ceilings, and a 160-ft truck court that can be expanded to 200 ft. The U.S. Customs bonded warehouse is very close to the city's new TraPac container terminal and will allow Crowley to provide warehousing and distribution services to those shippers involved in the Asia trade. As the Panama Canal is expanded, volumes of freight coming to Jacksonville from Asia could potentially increase volumes to the warehouse and allow the logistics group to increase its breadth of service offerings.

Hutton’s Opens Largest UK Depot

Britain’s leading ship supplier, Hutton’s, has responded to growing demand from the offshore oil and gas sectors by opening its biggest UK depot in Aberdeen. Hutton’s, which recently announced record sales figures, moved into the 13,000 sq ft (1300sq m) depot from a smaller 5,000 sq ft warehouse a month ago. Hutton’s need for expansion is a result of increased business from the offshore industry. The new facility is located near Aberdeen harbour and provides Hutton’s with considerably increased capacity. In addition, the depot provides modern office space with up-to-date IT systems and hi-tech meeting facilities. Leased from the Harbour Board the unit is recently refurbished and houses 350 cu m of chilled and frozen freezer facilities and 382 ambient pallet places.

Containerships Selects Teesport

Containerships, a shortsea carrier, has chosen North East based Teesport, owned by PD Ports, as its strategic freight hub for Northern Europe. The shipping line, which acquired Mediterranean short-sea specialist Contaz in March, has chosen to use Teesport, the UK’s third largest port by volume, to link its new Mediterranean services with its traditional Baltic routes. Containerships, a long-term customer of PD Ports, has chosen for the first time to direct the Contaz traffic through Teesport. Initially there will be two ships on this route, operating a 12/13 day frequency, meaning that Containerships will be making five calls a week in total at Teesport.
