Amogy to Open $40 Million Houston Manufacturing Facility

Amogy, developer of emission-free ammonia power solutions, on Tuesday announced it will open a new manufacturing facility in the energy and maritime hub city Houston.The Brooklyn-headquartered company said it will invest more than $40 million to renovate a 53,000-square-foot manufacturing facility that was formerly used to produce oil and gas equipment. Trelleborg Opens US Facility

Trelleborg’s marine systems operation has opened a new American headquarters in Berryville, Virginia, U.S. The new site houses a 36,000 square foot manufacturing facility for foam-based marine fenders and buoys and 9,000 square foot sales and business development office. Trelleborg Invests in High-Speed Fender Test Rig

Trelleborg’s marine operation is in the process of building and installing a custom-made high-speed test rig, capable of testing both rubber and foam fenders. The rig is being built in Trelleborg’s new Berryville facility in Virginia, U.S., and represents a substantial investment for the business. General Atomics Wins Contract for US Aircraft Carrier

U.S. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) awarded General Atomics (GA) an initial sole-source contract for Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) for the CVN 79 aircraft carrier to be named John F. Kennedy. This contract is for the initial procurement of the long-lead-time materials in support of a full production contract for installation of EMALS and AAG into CVN 79, the second of the Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers. CVN 79 is scheduled to be delivered to the U.S. Navy in 2023. GA Electromagnetic Systems Group will manufacture EMALS and AAG components at its state-of-the-art 367,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Tupelo, Miss. “These are exciting times.

Retooling the U.S. Coast Guard

Under the Radar and also the higher profile Fast Response (FRC) and National Security Cutter (NSC) acquisitions is the U.S. Coast Guard’s effort to replace and upgrade its fleet of smaller response workboats. The building programs involve big money and substantial innovation. But, for all the progress being made, the failure of the federal government to come to a budget deal for the coming fiscal year could also put the brakes on some of the most innovative programs that the Coast Guard has ever embarked upon. In the meantime, it is full speed ahead with a three-pronged small boat program that could eventually involve as many as 650 vessels. The effort to recapitalize the Coast Guard never ends.

Louisiana Manufacturer will Replace Coast Guard's Small Response Boat Fleet. Metal Shark Boats has been awarded a contract to replace the U.S. Coast Guard's fleet of Response Boat - Small (RB-S) vessels. Up to 470 boats will be delivered across the Coast Guard fleet, with an additional 20 boats will be available to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, with another ten slated for purchase by the U.S. Navy. The $192 million contract is one of the largest boat buys of its kind for the Coast Guard, and provides a significant economic boost to the state of Louisiana.
