Shreyas Shipping Buys Three Container Ships

Shreyas Shipping and Logistics Ltd, the Indian-flagged vessel-owning firm of Transworld Group of companies said Tuesday that it had acquired three container vessels within just one week. The three vessels have been renamed as SSL Godavari, SSL Kaveri, and SSL Thamirabarani, and according to VesselFinder.com, the vessels' previous names were Windermere, TS MANILA, and Sky Pride, respectively.The SSL Godavari has a capacity of 2,872 TEUs, while the SSL Kaveri and SSL Thamirabarani have a capacity of 2,553 TEUs and 962 TEUs, respectively. Concor Begins Maiden Coastal Voyage

India has huge potential for enhancing modal share of coastal shipping and inland water navigation. The current share is only 7% unlike countries like China with 24%  and Germany 11%. MV SSL Kolkata: Salvage Operations Continue

The salvage operations of the container vessel MV SSL Kolkata that had caught fire last month, is continuing in rough weather conditions with 2- 4 metre swells. The vessel is grounded at about 8 nautical miles off the ecologically sensitive Sundarbans since the 13th of last month when its cargo area had caught fire following an explosion. All 22 crew members were   rescued by the Indian Coast Guard. The Directorate General of Shipping and its allied office, Mercantile Marine Department, Kolkata, Govt. of West Bengal, the Indian Coast Guard and various authorities have been constantly monitoring the developments as the salvage efforts continue.

Responders are facing challenging monsoon season conditions as they work to salvage a containership that caught fire and grounded in the in the Bay of Bengal last month.The stricken containership SSL Kolkata remains aground in soft mud some 7.5 nautical miles off the Indian Sunderbans, Kolkata, West Bengal, after an explosion in one of the containers lit a fire on board the vessel on June 13.An oil spill response team from OSRL has arrived on scene and is the process of managing the counter pollution operations as responders battle challenging weather conditions…

22 Rescued from Containership Ablaze in the Bay of Bengal

The Indian Coast Guard said it has rescued all 22 crew members from a containership that caught fire around midnight in the Bay of Bengal.Coast Guard vessels arrived on scene Thursday morning and rescued all crew and the captain from Indian flagged SSL Kolkata, Coast Guard Commander Inspector General (NE) Kuldip Singh Sheoran said.SSL Kolkata was sailing from Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh to Kolkata when the fire broke out due to an explosion in one of the containers, local media reported.Sheoran said the ship is carrying 464 containers on board.With all crew evacuated…

Shreyas Takes Delivery of Three Vessels

Indian flagged vessel owning unit of Dubai-headquartered Transworld Group Shreyas Shipping and Logistics (SSL) announced that the company has taken deliveries of its three vessels.   In a stock exchange filing the container feeder owning and operating company said that it has taken deliveries of M.V. SSL Ganga (container vessel - 1500 teus), M.V. SSL Brahmaputra (container vessel - 4200 teus) and M.V. SSL Balaji (multipurpose vessel - 650 teus).   The company has also entered into Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for sale of one vessel - SSL Sagarmala.   The company began primarily to fill the gap for container feeder between Indian ports and internationally renowned transshipment ports such as Dubai, Khorfakkan, Jebel Ali, Colombo and Singapore.

Trelleborg Suite Supplied to Prelude FLNG

Trelleborg’s marine systems operation has supplied a suite of products to Shell’s Prelude FLNG facility, the largest offshore facility ever constructed. Pirates Move From High Seas to High Tech

A group of cunning tech-savvy pirates hacked a shipping company’s systems, enabling them to carefully target cargo on the firm’s vessels. A curious case reported by Verizon's RISK (Research, Investigations, Solutions and Knowledge)  Team shows that even those lowly sea pirates chasing after cargo ships with old Kalashnikovs in worn-out dingies are resorting to hacking to boost up their profits. The shipping company experienced a series of hit-and-run attacks by pirates who, instead of seeking a ransom for the crew and cargo, went after specific shipping containers and made off with high-value cargo, says  Verizon Data Breach Digest report.

SSL, Streamlines Join Forces in Nordic, Baltic Regions

SSL power solutions manufacturer Thomas Research Products (TRP) introduced a new surge protector for 480V circuits. The FSP3-480-20kA protects LED luminaires from surges up to 20,000 amps. Using new components, the FSP3-480-20kA is the same size as the company’s current 277V model. An LED indicator on TRP’s new compact device shows that it is functioning to protect the luminaire. The unit also includes in-line fusing to shut down the luminaire when the capabilities of the surge protector have been exceeded.

Intelsat 34 Satellite Launched Successfully

Intelsat S.A. today reported that its Intelsat 34 satellite was launched successfully from French Guiana aboard an Ariane 5 vehicle. Liftoff occurred at 4:34 pm EDT. The Intelsat 34 satellite separated from the rocket’s upper stage 40 minutes after launch, at 5:14 pm EDT, and signal acquisition has been confirmed. Intelsat 34 is a C- and Ku-band satellite to be placed into service at the 304.5ºE orbital location. It will replace Intelsat 805 and Galaxy 11 as the third in Intelsat’s leading Latin America, pan-regional video distribution neighborhood (which includes Intelsat 11 and Intelsat 21). Intelsat 34 includes a C-band payload which will deliver media distribution services for blue chip media powerhouses including Fox Sports and HBOLA.
