Bahamas Corvette Gets a Lifetime Extension

The 60-meter Royal Bahamas Defense Force Corvette HMBS Nassau (P-61) has arrived at Damen Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam in the Netherlands for an extensive refit. The 17-year old vessel will receive a comprehensive overhaul that comprises full systems and instrumentation replacement. The P-61 refit is part of the ‘Sandy Bottom Project’ contract between Damen Shipyards Group and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force that the two parties signed in 2014. Damen Delivers Stan Patrol Vessel to RBDF

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) has taken delivery of the fourth and final Stan Patrol 4207, named HMBS Rolly Gray. The four Stan Patrol 4207s form part of the six-year Sandy Bottom project. The Stan Patrol 4207s carry a 24-person crew, have a range in excess of 2000 nm and can achieve speeds of 20 knots. As well as their weapons systems each carries two RHIBS for fast interception and boarding. The first 4207, HMBS Arthur Dion Hanna, arrived from the Netherlands in May 2014, followed by HMBS Durward Knowles in July and HMBS Leon Livingstone Smith in September 2014.

Royal Bahamas Defense Force Contracts Damen

Following a six-year acquisition program, the Government of the Bahamas announced the signing of a letter of intent to acquire nine vessels for the Royal Bahamas Defense Force and construction work for their naval bases. The contract has been placed with Damen Shipyards Group, headquartered in Gorinchem, the Netherlands. In announcing the contract, the Minister of National Security, the Hon. Dr. Bernard Nottage, stressed that his Government was determined to protect the security and economic well-being of the people of the Bahamas and this order was a powerful endorsement of this commitment.

Chinese Damen Partner Shipyard Gets Pontoon Orders

Damen places 4 more orders with its Chinese partner yard, Nantong Yahua Shipbuilding. Damen Shipyards signed the contracts for two Damen Stan Pontoon type 4113, intended for the Australian market, in the presence of some 1,500 workers, suppliers & customer representatives. The two pontoons will be finished in February 2013. Also a contract was signed for a Damen Stan Lander 5915 for Smit Lamnalco, who will use the Landing Craft vessel for the Shell project in Gabon and is scheduled to be finished at the end of 2013.

Santiago Shipyard Launches Vessel

According to a report from the Cuba Standard, the Damex Shipbuilding & Engineering shipyard in Santiago — one of the few fully foreign-owned operations in Cuba — finished assembling a 600-ton multi-purpose cargo vessel that will be used by the Venezuelan navy, Prensa Latina reported.
