Markey Machine won a first-ever contract from SAAM Towage to retrofit the controls on a Timberland towing winch aboard the Point Valiant, a tug based in Vancouver, B.C.SAAM first outlined the project to Markey last May, then hired Sentinel Survey, Markey’s after-market service division, to undertake on-site inspection of the winch. Rolls-Royce announced it has secured a contract to supply eight of its mtu 16V 4000 M65L engines for four 80-ton bollard pull tugboats to be built by Detroit Brasil, Ltda. and operated by Starnav Servicos Maritimos Ltda. Rolls-Royce said it has won an order to supply MTU engines for four new tugs for Aliança Navegação, a company owned by the Hamburg Süd shipping line. The shipping company uses 16-cylinder MTU Series 4000 propulsion systems throughout its Brazilian tugboat fleet consisting of seven harbor tugs, two of which are deployed in São Francisco in the north of Santa Catarina. The remaining five tugboats are still to undergo commissioning.All tugs are being built by Detroit Brasil Ltda.

Petrobras has signed contracts with Brazilian shipbuilders as part of its 3rd 'Fleet Renewal Plan for Offshore Support Vessels (OSV's). The units, type PSV 4500 and OSRV 750, fulfill 60% local content requirements and will be built in Brazil. Petrobas say tha prices presented were competitive, given expected metrics and budgets. This was the 4th Round of the Fleet Renewal Plan. In July this year, Petrobras will go to the market for another 24 offshore support vessels (5th Round), thus fulfilling the 2014 contracting target of 146 vessels to be built in Brazil, as planned in the 3rd Renewal Plan Fleet for Offshore Support Vessels. Naval Architecture firm Guido Perla & Associates, Inc. (GPA) signed a contract with the Brazilian Shipyard Detroit Brasil Ltda., a subsidiary of Detroit Chile, to deliver the Basic/Class Design and Detailed / Construction Engineering for four PSV 4500. Throughout the design and engineering process, GPA worked closely with the shipyard to meet all of Petrobras’ requirements for these vessels, which will be owned and operated by Brazilian-based Starnav. During the construction process, GPA will also provide onsite supervision in Itajai, Brazil, at Detroit Brasil Ltda.
