The downfall of a leading marine fuel supplier that prompted sellers to tighten credit terms in Singapore is skewing the post-OW Bunker jostle for market share towards cash-rich trading companies and barge operators, traders said. Marine fuel premiums over cargo prices in Singapore, the world's busiest refuelling port, have stayed elevated after hitting their highest in more than two years in the wake of OW Bunker's collapse as worried buyers tried to lock in prompt supplies. Besides oil majors - such as BP, Shell and ExxonMobil - which have integrated supply systems including storage and fuel-delivery tankers, rivals with deep pockets or a fleet of barges are also expected to expand their market share.
APM Terminals wins Battle for Moin Container Terminal
The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the Costa Rican Government and APM Terminals in an appeal filed by the port workers union against the 33-year concession contract for the new Moin Container Terminal (TCM) in Limon on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. "The TCM will be a world class, modern, safe and efficient terminal operating under international standards and procedures, designed to boost Costa Rica´s international trade by taking full advantage of the economy of scale provided by the new-Panamax container vessels of up to 13,500 containers, vessels of up to five times larger than those which can be serviced in the country today," Gallie said.
Moose Boats Deliver Patrol Boat to NYPD
Boat designer and manufacturer in the San Francisco Bay Area, Moose Boats, said it has delivered a M2-35 Catamaran Patrol Boat to New York City Police Department’s Harbor Unit. The 35 foot all-aluminum catamaran vessel is a sister ship to NYPD’s three existing Moose Boats M2- 35 catamarans, the first of which has been in service since December 2009. The vessel will be responsible for patrol, search and rescue, recovery and dive operations in New York Harbor and the East and Hudson Rivers. Propulsion is achieved by twin Yamaha 350hp four-stroke outboards, and a Northern Lights generator powers integrated heated decks and windows as well as reverse cycle air conditioning.
Horizon Enters into OSHA Partnership
Horizon Lines of Puerto Rico, Inc., a subsidiary of Horizon Lines, Inc., participated in a signing ceremony of its Maritime Industry Safety Partnership Agreement with the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) Local 1575 and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. This agreement marks the second time Horizon Lines has taken a leadership position nationwide with a safety program of this nature. In 2002, the company became the first ocean carrier and marine terminal operator in the U.S. to sign an OSHA Strategic Partnership. This most recent activity allows Horizon Lines to make history by signing the newest partnership agreement that will focus on the health and safety of its labor force. The ceremony took place today at ILA Local 1575 Offices in San Juan.
