VIDEO: Coast Guard Rescues Nine People From Burning Jack-up Rig in Texas

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued nine people Thursday from a burning jack-up drilling rig near Sabine Pass, Texas.Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a notification at 12:51 p.m. from the dredging vessel Ohio that the Pride Wisconsin offshore drilling rig was on fire in Sabine Pass with nine people aboard.Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched a Coast Guard Station Sabine Pass 45-foot Response Boat–Medium crew and an Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to assist.

CG Assists Towing Vessel Taking on Water

A Coast Guard crew assisted a 72-foot towing vessel taking on water near Port Arthur, Texas, Thursday evening.Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a report that the towing vessel, Antietam, was taking on water and in need of assistance. Antietam, who was pushing two barges, intentionally grounded near Taylor Bayou to avoid sinking.A Station Sabine Pass 29-foot Response Boat-Small boat crew was launched. Once on scene, the crew of the RB-S assisted in dewatering the vessel.There are no reports of pollution at this time.Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur personnel are scheduled to assess the vessel at first light, Friday.

Crewman Overboard Near Texas

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and the crew of a nearby ship are searching for a crewman who fell overboard while painting the side of a bulk carrier at anchor about 10 miles off Sabine Pass, Texas, Saturday. The crew of the CF Crystal, a Chinese-flagged 738-foot bulk carrier, contacted Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston watchstanders at about 9 a.m. Saturday, to report a crewman had fallen overboard. The crew reportedly threw the man a life ring but couldn't reach him, and they saw him submerge shortly after. The USCG dispatched a Station Sabine Pass 45-foot rescue boatcrew, which arrived on scene within 30 minutes and began searching. A MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Houston was also sent to join the search.

USCG Rescues 5 From Platform In Gulf Of Mexico

Five men were rescued Monday from an unmanned platform about 40 miles southeast of the Texas/Louisiana border, after their fishing boat began taking on water. The men made it to the unmanned platform and one man was able to call the Coast Guard for help at about 10:45 a.m. Sector Houston/Galveston watchstanders sent a 45-foot response boat and crew from Station Sabine Pass, but the weather conditions didn't allow for them to safely get the men aboard from the rig. In order to recover the men before potentially severe weather moved in, two MH-65 Dolphin helicopters were sent from Air Station Houston to get the men to safety. "They were out there in the elements and had no way of getting back.

One Missing After Collision on Sabine Lake

The Coast Guard, Port Arthur Fire Department and Jefferson County Sheriff's Department are searching for a 56-year-old man after a collision occurred between the tug and barge Father Seelos and the missing man's pleasure craft about 500 feet west of Goat Island in Sabine Lake, Sunday. Missing is John Tran of Bridge City, Texas. The captain of tug Father Seelos contacted Vessel Traffic Service Port Arthur at approximately 2:30 p.m. notifying them of the collision. Coast Guard crewmembers are currently searching for the man aboard a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Houston…

Unified Command Responds to Port Arthur Spill

At 12:17 a.m. Jan. 24, the Dixie Vengeance and two barges were separated from the Eagle Otome and moored on the east bank of the Sabine Neches Waterway. The Unified Command continues to respond to the spill, ensuring the safety of the public and minimizing environmental impact. Currently 11 skimmers are conducting operations and air monitoring is on-going. A collision between the towing vessel Dixie Vengeance with the two barges it was pushing, and the 807-ft tank ship Eagle Otome, resulted in damage to the Eagle Otome, which was loaded with crude oil.
