Chesapeake to Build 7th Tug for Vane

Chesapeake Shipbuilding Corp of Salisbury, MD announced today that it has signed a contract with Vane Brothers of Baltimore, MD to build another new ocean going tug. The new contract represents the 7th tug that Chesapeake Shipbuilding will have built for Vane Brothers in just over five years. Construction has already begun. Bay Ship & Yacht Launches Blue Thunder

Bay Ship & Yacht has launched the high-performance yacht, Blue Thunder, marking the shipyard’s entry into the custom-built sport-yachting market. With a service speed of 32 knots, a flank speed of 42 knots, and a draft of less than three ft, the Blue Thunder offers the speed and performance of a high-performance sport yacht. The custom interior is crafted with veneered, ultra-light honeycomb-cored panels, with a satin varnish finish. The boat has a 42-ft hull and a 10-ft beam, and is built with a light-weight wood/epoxy/fiberglass composite.

Chesapeake Shipbuilding Delivers New Tugs

Chesapeake Shipbuilding Corp of Salisbury, MD delivered the second of six new tugboats to Vane Brothers of Baltimore, Md. this week. Elk River will join Sassafras, the first tug that Chesapeake built for Vane Brothers, in hauling 30,000 barrel tank barges on near coastal routes. Construction is already well underway on the remaining four tugs, each of which will be delivered over the next year and a half. Elk River produces 3,000 hp with twin Caterpillar 3512 main engines through 6:1 reverse reduction gears to conventional shafts.
