Autonomous Energy Plant ICCP-POD Launched

NYK, Toyokoh to Address Steel Corrosion on Ships

International Maritime Organization (IMO) fuel rules entering force in 2020 mandate a drastic sulfur reduction. By 2050 the mandate is to cut greenhouse gas emissions of shipping by at least 50 percent.Marine fuels, lubricants and additives manufacturers play their part in establishing maritime’s green credentials by introducing new environmentally acceptable technologies and products.The shipping industry is more than ever portrayed in a bad light due to increasing awareness of its contribution to global climate change, according to Dirk Kronmeijer, CEO of GoodFuels Marine.

Moog Supplies Camera System for WHOI Research Vessel

Moog Inc. Space and Defense Group has supplied the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) with a new, rugged camera system for launch and recovery of the Alvin submarine aboard the research vessel Atlantis II. The U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command mandates that the crew of Atlantis II be able to see the latch pin, which is part of the launch and recovery system (LARS) for use with Alvin. Sherwin-Williams Launches New Epoxy Coating

Sherwin-Williams has launched Macropoxy® 80, a high-build HAPs-free epoxy coating formulated for application to marginally prepared and damp surfaces in marine and offshore applications. The coating combats steel corrosion caused by immersion in salt and fresh water, as well as from atmospheric exposures and can be applied at temperatures as low as 0o F (-18o C). A modified phenalkamine epoxy, Macropoxy 80 is recommended for use in coastal areas, salt and fresh water immersion, bilges and wet void areas, water and wastewater tanks, underwater hulls, and decks and superstructures. It can also be used as an anti-corrosive primer in an underwater hull system with anti-fouling coatings.

ClassNK Approves First Corrosion Resistant Steel

April 27 (Tokyo) - ClassNK announced today that it had issued the world’s first type approval for corrosion resistant steel to the new NSGP®-1 steel manufactured by Nippon Steel Corporation’s Oita Works . New Type of Passenger Vessel from Canadian Shipyard

Strömma Kanalbolaget Turism & Sjofart AB (SKTS), a well known tourism organization in Sweden has recently purchased a new 48 passenger Explorathor high performance vessel from Recheres Et Travaux Maritimes Construction (RTMC), a shipbuilder based in Québec, Canada. The boat measures 45 ft. in overall length with a 12.5 ft. beam. It is powered with twin TAMD74C, 450 hp Volvo Penta diesel engines driving two model 356 stainless steel Alpha Power Jet, also produced by RTMC.
