San Francisco’s New Fireboat is Like No Other

San Francisco’s Jensen-designed super pumping fireboat is like none that came before her. As a result, the City by the Bay is prepared like never before, for its next crisis. First of 10 Utility Vessels Delivered

Incat Crowther announced the first deliveries of a 10-boat order for 42m Infield Utility Vessels to Brunei’s PTAS Marine. Developed in conjunction with builder Strategic Marine, the project called upon Incat Crowther’s track record in steel crew boats to meet strict performance criteria. PTAS has been contracted by Brunei Shell Petroleum to build and operate nine vessels to support their offshore platforms for a period of ten years. Topaz Signs Contract with Kuwait Oil Company

Renaissance subsidiary, Topaz Marine Engineering (“Topaz”), a UAE-based full service ship building, ship repair and engineering services company, confirms it has been commissioned by the Kuwait Oil Company (“KOC”) to design, build and deliver 10 Fast Steel Crew /Pilot Boats of 22m LOA (“Crew/Pilot Boats”), market estimates believe the contract value to be in the region of US$50 million. With a focus on high technology and latest design, the Crew/Pilot boat will be designed to accommodate 30 crew, with passengers all seated on the main deck and will be provided with first quality equipment.

Damen to Build 14 Terminal Tugs

Damen and Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) have signed a contract for 14 Damen ASD Tugs. An extensive process of yard prequalification and tender evaluation finally resulted in an award to Damen this summer. The series consist of two types, with 9 tugs of Damen’s recently launched 3212 model and 5 units of the well-known 2810 design, providing 80 respectively 50 tons of bollard pull. While being based on existing Damen designs, these tugs have been extensively tailored to meet KOC’s exacting requirements on layout, systems and performances.

Repowering and Niche Marketing at Westar

Fireworks exploded over the Bay Bridge and thousands of people crowding the waterfront near the new ballpark gasped in admiration. Some of the best seats for the spectacle are along the north side of Pier 50, home of Westar Marine Services where owner's and employees share a barbecue in honor of the annual display sponsored by a local radio station. But the folks at Westar are more than passive observers, the tugs that are managing the fireworks barges are contracted from Westar. This annual fireworks event sums up Westar Marine Services' role on San Francisco Bay. They are the company that takes on all of the niche jobs that others with their large investments in big horsepower and Z-drives can't afford to be doing.
