Oman Drydock Closes 2015 with Busy Second Half

Oman Drydock Company (ODC) has reported one of its busiest half year periods to date for drydockings, conversions and repairs. Based in Duqm Oman’s new ports and logistics city, ODC is one of the world’s largest shipyards at 1.3 million square meters. ODC deputy CEO Dr. Ahmed Al Abri, said the period July to December 2015 saw the shipyard undertake a range of drydockings taking the total number undertaken since it opened to 375. Kasturi Marine to Develop Heavy Fabrication Works

According to a Dec 30 report from the Malaysian National News Agency, Kasturi Marine Heavy Engineering Sdn Bhd, in view of the booming oil and gas industry, will undertake the development of a major yard capable of housing some large projects in the fabrication of offshore modules and platforms as well as a shipbuilding yard to facilitate clients around Asia and the Asia Pacific region. The proposed yard could accommodate approximately 30,000 to 40,000 tonnes of steel fabrication works and possess infrastructure capabilities such as draft depth of more than 35 meters for off loading activities including dry docking activities. Strategic Marine Launches Caballo Maya

Strategic Marine has successfully launched the first of two 496 ft Dive Supports Vessels, Caballo Maya (Hull 156) in Vietnam. The vessel was launched on the 5th of April, 2010, with the second vessel (Hull 157) approximately 90% complete and eight weeks from completion. “We were originally awarded the contract for Hull 156 in late 2006, and were engaged to exclusively carry out the steel fabrication works on the vessel,” explained Managing Director Mark Schiller. In late 2007 the Vung Tau based shipbuilder was awarded a contract for an additional vessel (Hull 157).

MAN Diesel’s 32/44CR Type Approval

MAN Diesel’s 32/44CR common rail engine has now achieved Type Approval from the American Bureau of Shipping, Bureau Veritas, Det Norske Veritas, Germanischer Lloyd, Lloyd’s Register of Shipping, China Classification Society and Registro Italiano Navale.

At the MAN Diesel works in Augsburg, Germany, the first production version of the 32/44CR recently completed its Type Approval program in the presence of representatives from the shipyard, the ship owner and the Classification Societies American Bureau of Shipping, Bureau Veritas, Det Norske Veritas, Germanischer Lloyd, Lloyd’s Register of Shipping, China Classification Society and Registro Italiano Navale. As a result of the approval, the engine is now certified for use as both a propulsion engine and to drive shipboard generator sets.
