Ulstein Verft Builds Bernhard Schulte’s 3rd Vessel

Norwegian shipbuilder and ship designer Ulstein has started construction work on Bernhard Schulte Offshore’s third Ulstein-designed offshore wind vessel at Ulstein Verft.According a press note, initiate work tasks such as steel outfitting, mechanical outfitting, electrical steel work, piping and insulation, have now commenced, and cable pulling will start within a few days.Bernhard Schulte has previously (2016 and 2017) received two offshore wind vessels from Ulstein. The ship owner was the first to order and introduce to the market the novel X-STERN aft design, which improves the operational flexibility and work conditions for the ship’s crew at the offshore wind farms.

Deltamarin Designs FPSO for Bumi Armada

Deltamarin signed a contract with Bumi Armada, for the basic design of a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit. In November 2013, the Malaysia-based international offshore oilfield services provider, Bumi Armada, announced that they have secured a contract to supply the unit to operate in the oil company EnQuest's Kraken field, which is located in an area with challenging environmental conditions in the U.K. sector of the North Sea. Deltamarin had earlier provided Bumi Armada with technical support for the conversion of an existing oil tanker into an FPSO in the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase. The FEED phase included development of a robust FPSO design for the harsh North Sea environment that fulfils the UK rules and regulations in all aspects.

AVEVA Enhances Pipe and Steel Outfitting Fabrication

AVEVA announced that it has further strengthened its AVEVA Marine software portfolio with efficiency enhancements to better manage production information. New and improved features have been added to AVEVA Outfitting to better control pipe and steel outfitting fabrication. These features will enable shipbuilders and offshore engineers to benefit from tools to manage the entire production process from design to workshop, resulting in a more production efficient design and increased accuracy of production information, AVEVA said.

Todd Pacific Shipyards Enters Contract with Electric Boat

Todd Pacific Shipyards Corporation announced today that it has entered into a contract with Electric Boat Corporation of Groton, Connecticut to support their work on Trident submarines. During the period from May to September 2003, Todd Pacific completed planning and preparation work for Electric Boat under a contract valued at less than $200,000. Todd Pacific has begun work on a follow-on contract to fabricate components and to accomplish associated steel outfitting, project management and quality assurance functions. This contract is associated with the refit work being accomplished by Electric Boat on the USS OHIO (SSBN 726) at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.

Robert Allan: Naval Architecture is in the Blood

Since the beginning of the 20th Century when Robert Allan's grandfather emigrated from Scotland to Canada, he treated the concept of naval architecture as a "science" rather than a trade. With little money but a lot of talent, the young man nurtured and grew a family business that would span three generations. From the time he accepted his first job as manager of a Canadian shipyard in 1919, Robert Allan started moving ideas from his head to innovative vessels. Armed with sketchbook and pencil, he opened his own naval architecture and marine engineering firm in his basement. All along, it was evident though that Robert Allan was exceptional.
