PPG to Acquire Hi-Temp Coatings Supplier

PPG Industries announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of Hi-Temp Coatings Technology Co., Inc., a privately-owned supplier of high-temperature-resistant and insulative coatings, based in Boxborough, Mass. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter, subject to customary closing conditions. Financial terms were not disclosed. Hi-Temp is a global supplier of coatings that withstand extreme temperatures to protect both carbon steel and stainless steel substrates.

PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) protective and marine coatings business (PMC) has signed a global distribution agreement with Hi-Temp Coatings Technology Co. for select HI-TEMP(R) branded products. Hi-Temp Coatings Technology manufactures industry-leading coatings that withstand extreme temperatures to protect both carbon steel and stainless steel substrates in stacks, piping, boilers and similar equipment.

Sherwin-Williams Launches New Epoxy Coating

Sherwin-Williams has launched Macropoxy® 80, a high-build HAPs-free epoxy coating formulated for application to marginally prepared and damp surfaces in marine and offshore applications. The coating combats steel corrosion caused by immersion in salt and fresh water, as well as from atmospheric exposures and can be applied at temperatures as low as 0o F (-18o C). A modified phenalkamine epoxy, Macropoxy 80 is recommended for use in coastal areas, salt and fresh water immersion, bilges and wet void areas, water and wastewater tanks, underwater hulls, and decks and superstructures. It can also be used as an anti-corrosive primer in an underwater hull system with anti-fouling coatings.

Coatings: Metal Fusion Helps Stop Corrosion

New advances in metal fusion technology produce a metalized coating with no porosity, which can be applied at rates similar to those achieved by airless painting practices. The substrate temperature does not affect the process, and there is no curing time. The competitive process results in extremely long term near permanent corrosion protection, which is designed to be competitive in price with conventional corrosion systems. High speed metalizing of a variety of substrates can be accomplished rapidly under harsh field conditions. As there is no cure time required for the process, which can be used to apply up to 35 mils with only one coat, the application time is often much reduced from a conventional corrosion prevention system.
