Stena RoRo Orders Two More E-Flexer Ferries in China. Charters Secured

A day after it ordered its tenth E-Flexer vessel in the RoPax class, Stena RoRo on Thursday said it had ordered two new ferries from the Chinese shipyard CMI Jinling (Weihai). To remind, the firm on Monday ordered the tenth unit from the same shipyard for a charter in Canada. The 11th and 12th Stena E-Flexer vessels, ordered Thursday, are in the RoPax class developed by Stena RoRo, with delivery scheduled for 2024 and 2025. Stena RoRo Places an Order for LNG Newbuild

Stena RoRo places an order for a further newbuild and signs a 10-year charter contract with Brittany Ferries, said a press release from the company. The vessel now ordered, which will be built for LNG operation, is the sixth in the so-called Stena E-Flexer RoPax class with delivery set for autumn 2021. Stena RoRo has a further two options with the Chinese shipyard AVIC International. At the same time, the newbuild has been signed to a 10-year charter with the French ferry shipping company Brittany Ferries. This vessel, together with a further vessel in the E-Flexer series ordered last winter, will supplement Brittany Ferries’ fleet operating between Portsmouth in the UK and Bilbao and Santander in Spain.

CROE to Supply Scrubbers to STENA RoRo

CR Ocean Engineering, L.L.C. (CROE) has recently been awarded the design and supply of two Open Loop exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbing systems) from STENA RoRo AB. The two systems will be installed to reduce SO2 from two main engines aboard the STENA Forefunner. The Stena Forerunner operates primarily in the European ECA where new low sulphur fuel regulations went into effect on January 1, 2015. The CROE scrubbing systems aboard the Forerunner are scheduled to be on line in the first half of 2015.

A&P Busy in the Ferry Refit Season

The various yards in A&P are well into the ‘ferry refit’ season, with the latest contract being Irish Continental Lines’ 50,938 grt passenger/car ferry Ulysses, which is currently in A&P Birkenhead. This yard is also currently repairing NorseMerchant Ferries’ 9,368 grt Merchant Bravery. The largest ferry project currently underway in the A&P Group, is the modification of the 24,688 grt, 2002-built RoRo vessel Stena Foreteller at A&P Tyne’s Hebburn shipyard. The vessel, the former Cetam Massilia, is owned by Sweden’s Stena RoRo AB, and managed by the Stena’s Northern Marine Management, Glasgow. The contract involves major modifications to the purifier room entailing relocating this equipment to a newly-created machinery space within the lower car hold.
