Lifecycle Strategies Important for Navy

Steve Carmel, Senior Vice President, Maritime Services at Maersk Line, Limited (MLL) was a keynote speaker at the Naval Logistics Symposium on July 22. The symposium, organized by the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE), an organization comprising of civilian and military naval engineers, focused on the challenges of implementing effective lifecycle management of naval assets. As a member of the Chief of Naval Operations Executive Panel, Carmel is in a unique position to bridge government and commercial perspectives. First LR-Class Ship Enters USCG ACP

The 1,399 teu container ship Maersk Alaska, owned by Maersk Line, Limited, has become the first Lloyd’s Register-classed ship to enter the US Coast Guard’s (USCG) Alternate Compliance Program (ACP). ACP is a voluntary program available through authorized classification societies for owners, operators, designers and builders of US-flag vessels to comply with USCG design and inspection regulations. USCG’s ACP is intended to reduce the regulatory burden on the maritime industry while maintaining existing levels of safety and to provide the maritime industry with more flexibility in determining how to build and operate US-flag vessels. Lloyd’s Register is one of only two non-US classification societies to have ACP authorization from USCG.

MLL Aligns Management Structure

Maersk Line, Limited (MLL) has announced a realignment of its Senior Management Team structure to serve clients and grow its position in target markets. William J. (Bill) Kenwell will assume the title of Senior Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer with responsibility for leading commercial activities and relationships with key government agencies. Reporting to Kenwell will be MLL’s U.S.-flag Liner and Integrated Defense Logistics business units as well as all Marketing and Proposal activities. Kenwell will report to MLL’s President and Chief Executive Officer, John Reinhart. All of MLL’s maritime-related business units will transfer reporting to Steve Carmel, Senior Vice President, Maritime Services.
