Sweeney Promoted to VP of Far East Operations at Crowley
Effective March 1, 2004, Alex Sweeney will assume the position of Vice President of Russian Far East Operations. In his new position, Sweeney is responsible for the management of the BETS Sealift to Lunskoye, Sakhalin Island and the tow of the Orlan from Sov Govan, Russia to Ulsan, Korea. He will report directly to Steve Peterson, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Energy and Marine Services and will work closely with Chris Peterson, General Manager, Contract Services, who has commercial responsibility for those contracts. Sweeney joined Crowley in 1980 and has over 20 years experience in marine operations for Crowley on the east and west coasts.
Crowley Promotes Sweeney
Crowley Maritime Corporation promoted Alex Sweeney to vice president and general manager of its energy and marine services business unit. Sweeney will live in Seattle and report to Chairman, President and CEO Tom Crowley Jr. He replaces Steve Peterson, who is leaving the company. Sweeney will be responsible for all aspects of Crowley's specialized services provided to companies engaged in the exploration, production and distribution of oil and gas. Areas of operation extend from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to the Russian Far East to Africa.
Minesweeper XO Readying to be First Surface Warfare Officer for ‘Fleet-Up’
In addition to managing his regular duties, the executive officer (XO) of the USS Guardian (MCM 5) is preparing to be the first surface warfare officer to "fleet-up" to commanding officer (CO). Lt. Ted Essenfeld, who arrived at the ship in January 2007, will lead the way in what will be a Navywide standard for surface warfare officers in line to become commanding officers. Under the fleet-up plan, officially set in motion in December 2005, XO’s serve 18 months and then transition to CO, for their command tour on the same ship. For Guardian, which is an O-4 command ship, it will only be 15 months for Essenfeld before he becomes commanding officer.
Crowley Reorganizes its Marine Services Subsidiary
Crowley Maritime Corporation announced that has reorganized its Crowley Marine Services subsidiary into three distinct operating groups – ship assist and escort services, petroleum services, and energy and marine services. Steve Peterson, senior vice president and general manager, is now managing energy and marine services and will relocate from Jacksonville to Seattle. Rob Grune, vice president and general manager, is managing ship assist and escort services and Bruce Barto, vice president and general manager, is directing Petroleum Services, also from Seattle. Each of these individuals reports directly to chairman, president and CEO, Tom Crowley Jr., and has profit and loss responsibilities for their groups.
