Lloyd’s Register is offering Machinery Damage and Repair workshops to support marine superintendents and engineering personnel. Mechanical breakdowns are a serious problem for ship owners, and having competent engineers on board can quite literally mean the difference between success and failure for a shipping company. The new workshops are unique to Lloyd’s Register and give even the most experienced engineers the opportunity to analyse and resolve some the most common mechanical problems found in the merchant marine environment. “The workshops are an innovative way to present real-life engineering problems with a variety of solutions in a controlled but time-pressured environment," said Steve Robson, Lloyd’s Register’s Senior Technical Training Specialist.
LR Debuts Training in Materials, Welding and Non-destructive Testing
Lloyd's Register is offering training courses in the properties of marine materials, welding techniques and non destructive examination (NDE), some of the cornerstones of ship construction, repair and maintenance. The course, Basic Principles of Materials, Welding and NDE for Existing Ships, has been designed for superintendents, ship-managers and the technical staff who are responsible for keeping their ships safe and operating efficiently. New Dry Docking Course from Lloyd’s
The marine industry’s first ever course designed to provide the essential information needed to prepare, plan and execute a successful dry-docking is to be launched by Lloyd’s Register’s Marine Training Services in Piraeus on June 29, 2009. The three-day Essential Dry-Docking Course, is aimed at existing marine superintendents, technical managers, fleet managers, senior sea staff and anyone involved in planning a docking. Lloyd’s Register decided to develop the course after market research revealed a shortage of qualified superintendents capable of carrying out dry dockings efficiently.
