The Norwegian offshore vessel company Siem Offshore has entered into a new three-year contract for the OSCV Siem Stingray with Subsea 7.The contract will start in direct continuation of its current commitment.Subsea 7 plans to employ the vessel supporting its clients world-wide predominantly within the oil and gas sector undertaking projects within offshore construction and inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR).Separately, Subsea 7 this week announced vessel charters in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico with Otto Candies and Bordelon Marine. Norwegian offshore vessel owner Siem Offshore said Monday it had signed a contract with an undisclosed client for operations in South East Asia for the Siem Barracuda offshore subsea construction vessel (OSCV), and an extension for OSCV Siem Stingray. The project will utilize the OSCV "Siem Barracuda" for a scope of work consisting of subsea preparatory work required for the construction of a new offshore wind farm. Widespread flooding from Hurricane Ida and power outages slowed efforts on Tuesday by energy firms to assess damages at oil production facilities, ports, and refineries.Nearly all of Louisiana lost electrical power on Monday after one of the most powerful hurricanes to hit the region downed transmission lines and flooded communities. Coastal areas were swamped by a storm surge so great it reversed the flow of the Mississippi River.Analysts said it could take two to three weeks to restart producing platforms and fully resume output at Louisiana refineries.

A containership rescued a boater clinging to the hull of his capsized vessel approximately 86 miles east of Port Canaveral, Fla., Sunday.Stuart Bee departed Cape Marina in Port Canaveral on Friday and was reported missing Saturday after he did not return from his day trip. Maersk Supply Service said it has fixed the newbuild subsea support vessels vessel (SSV) Maersk Involver for 161 days to support maintenance of the DAN F platform located offshore Esbjerg for walk-to-walk and accommodation services. The United States Navy awarded Huntington Ingalls Industries’ Newport News Shipbuilding a contract for two aircraft carriers, the first of its kind since the 1980s.A notification from the office of the navy chief of information said that the contract for the construction of CVN 80 and CVN 81 was awarded to Huntington Ingalls Industries-Newport News Shipbuilding (HII-NNS).The contract modification is worth $14.9 billion to cover remaining ship design and construction costs of CVNs 80 and 81.Once government-furnished equipment is added in – including systems such as the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System and the Advanced Arresting Gear – the Navy will spend about $24 billion on the two aircraft carriers…

China’s COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard has delivered the subsea support vessel “Maersk Involver” to offshore marine contractor Maersk Supply Service (MSS).   The 9,785 dwt  vessel delivery follows the “Maersk Installer”, who was handed over in October this year. This is part of  a batch four Stingray-class vessels ordered by Maersk from Cosco.     The vessel boasts 400 ts AHC crane, dynamic positioning class 3 and measures 11 meters high, 27 meters wide and 137 meters long.   "The delivery documents were signed by COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard Co., Ltd. and the buyer on 28 November 2017," said a statement from the company.   The delivery dates for the four vessels were postponed in mid-2017 due to the current market situation with new dates ranging from summer 2017 to spring 2018.

Swire Seabed has signed a three year bareboat charter with Siem Offshore for the LCV Siem Stingray. The vessel, which will be re-named Seabed Stingray, is an Inspection, Maintenance and Repair (IMR), Construction and Survey vessel of the VARD design. She is 120.90 metres in length with a deck space of 1350 m² and is equipped with a 250 tonne offshore crane. She will also have two heavy duty work class ROVs. The contract will see Swire Seabed operate the vessel in the IMR, Construction Support and Renewable sectors, with a particular focus on North European and West African markets. Siem Stingray was formerly working in the GoM for Subsea 7, executing the BP IMR & Light Construction Frame Agreement.

The AP Moller-Maersk Group subsidiary Maersk Supply Service,, which is part of the "fifth leg" in the light blue conglomerate, is divesting up to 20 vessels over the coming 18 months and reducing its crew pool by 400 offshore positions. The divestment plan is a response to vessels in lay-up, limited trading opportunities and the global over-supply of offshore supply ships. The first ten vessels are expected to exit the fleet in 2016, reports Denmark's local media 'Business'. Denmark-headquartered Maersk Supply Service CEO Jørn Madsen says “One of our prime objectives is to attempt to restore the demand balance in the offshore supply vessel market. “We are facing unprecedented market conditions and regrettably we have to further adjust our crew pool.

Tidewater Subsea has reached a deal with Bordelon Marine to charter the newly built Jones Act compliant MV Brandon Bordelon for 60 days, plus options. The vessel is intended to be available to work in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, Mexico and Trinidad, Bordelon Marine said. Tidewater Subsea is mobilizing two FMC Technologies Schilling HP 150 ROVs to the vessel. The Brandon is now fully capable to perform a variety of operations, including IMR (inspection, maintenance and repair), light construction, survey and inspection work.

There is no question that these are challenging times for offshore oil in the Gulf of Mexico. However, while some vessel operators are tying up boats, Bordelon Marine is continuing with its aggressive build program. This highly specialized vessel features an NOV 50 ton Active Heave Compensating crane with 3,000 meters of wire, a mezzanine deck with internal office and control rooms, capable of supporting two full work class ROV systems. The M/V Shelia Bordelon offers 6,200 sq. ft. of clear useable deck space, POB of 60, and two independent thru-hull USBL systems.
