Germany's emerging liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the Elbe river port of Stade expects its floating regasification vessel (FSRU) to arrive in February, allowing seaborne gas cargoes to be fed into local pipeline grids, its management said on Wednesday.The move is part of Germany's quest to increase LNG import capacity so it can end reliance on Russian pipeline gas, which Europe has heavily depended on prior to Moscow's invasion of Ukraine last year."The Transgas Force (the designated ship) is anticipated to arrive in February and will remain for three years, ahead of the commissioning

The Northern Lights carbon capture and storage JV in Norway is increasing CO2 shipping capacity with its third LCO2 carrier. Like the first two vessels, the gas equipment specialist Svanehøj will supply the cargo pump system. "The three ships are the world's largest of their kind, and the order represents a significant milestone for Svanehøj's ambitions in Carbon Capture and Storage," Svanehøj said.In 2022, the Danish gas equipment specialist was chosen as the cargo pump supplier for the first two Northern Lights LCO2 carriers.

Commercial maritime shipping has a fuel problem. While the industry has cemented its position as the essential piece of the global supply chain—moving more than 80% of all international goods by volume—its dependence on carbon-emitting fuel has come with a high cost.Maritime shipping is responsible for roughly 3% of all greenhouse gas emissions, according to the International Maritime Organization. Cheniere Energy expects to ship more liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Asia this year, after European customers took the lion's share of its 2022 cargoes, an official said on Monday.The top U.S. exporter of LNG shipped a total of 638 cargoes last year, with slightly over 70% delivered to Europe, Chief Operating Officer Corey Grindal said at the CERAWeek energy conference.Cheniere last year gave the financial go ahead for an expansion of its Corpus Christi, Texas, liquefaction plant and has sought an early environmental review with federal regulators for an expansion at its Sabine Pass…

Italian gas grid operator Snam confirmed on Thursday its guidance for full-year net profit after reporting a rise of 10% in nine-month revenue to 2.4 billion euros ($2.41 billion). The state-controlled group said it planned to boost Italy's gas storage and transport facilities after getting the go-ahead to set up two new LNG terminals. The new floating LNG terminals and investments in gas infrastructure are part of a broader effort by the Italian government to replace dwindling Russian gas supplies and keep a lid on energy costs. The gas grid operator reported a decline of 9% in gas consumption by the industrial sector between January and September, in a sign that companies in Italy have cut activity in the face of high commodity prices and supply difficulties.

Chinese shipbuilder Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. has won a contract to build two CO2 carriers for Northern Lights, a Norwegian carbon capture and storage project.Under the contract awarded by the Northern Lights JV, owned equally by Equinor, Shell and TotalEnergies, the Chinese shipbuilder will build two CO2 carriers, each with a cargo size of 7,500 m3 and a length of 130 meters.The two vessels, designed to transport liquid CO2 with purpose-built pressurized cargo tanks, are expected to be ready for delivery by mid-2024. The primary fuel for the ships will be LNG, keeping emissions low.

More than $220 million in discretionary grant funding has been awarded to improve U.S. port facilities in 16 states and territories through the Maritime Administration’s (MARAD) Port Infrastructure Development Program, U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Oil shipments from nascent crude producer Guyana's prolific Liza field could be affected by a growing storage glut that has contributed to plunging global crude prices, the country's director of energy said.A consortium led by Exxon Mobil began producing crude from the offshore field in December after discovering more than 8 billion barrels of recoverable resources together with partners Hess Corp and China's CNOOC Ltd. Port of Rotterdam Authority, Dutch natural gas infrastructure and transportation company  Gasunie and Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN) are preparing a CCUS (Carbon Capture Usage and Storage) project, in which CO₂ from industry will be transported to storage sites in depleted gas fields deep beneath the North Sea seabed.The three companies are working together on the preparation of this project under the name Porthos: Port of Rotterdam CO₂ Transport Hub & Offshore Storage.The Porthos project is being developed as an open access transport and storage infrastructure which can be used by multiple parties to store CO₂. German utility Uniper SE signed a Heads of Agreement (HOA) with ExxonMobil Gas Marketing Europe Limited in respect of a long-term booking of a substantial share of regasification capacity in Uniper’s floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) project Wilhelmshaven for receiving liquefied natural gas (LNG).According to a press release, the parties will continue their discussions in the coming months with the goal to enter into binding agreements soon.Keith Martin, Chief Commercial Officer of Uniper SE, says: “The Heads of Agreement is an important step towards the realization of the Wilhelmshaven FSRU project. The FSRU will provide LNG companies from the US, but also other countries from around the world with the opportunity to deliver LNG into the German and European market.

German energy group Uniper and Japanese shipping group Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) have agreed to intensify efforts on the Wilhelmshaven FSRU (Floating Storage and Regasification Unit) project in Germany, which could start up as early as H2 2022.The FSRU has a planned send-out capacity of 10 bcm/a and liquefied natural (LNG) storage capacity of 263,000 m³, said a press release from Uniper, the international energy company with operations in more than 40 countries.The project benefits from the existing site in Wilhelmshaven where required infrastructure is already in place. Wilhelmshaven is the only German deep-water port and can be reached without any tidal constraints.

Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) announced it has secured contracts to build its first two dual-fuel diesel liquefied natural gas (LNG) harbor tugs, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Keppel-Royal Dutch Shell plc (Shell) to jointly explore opportunities in using LNG as fuel. Keppel O&M's wholly owned subsidiary Keppel Singmarine Pte Ltd secured the tug contracts from Keppel Smit Towage Pte. Ltd and Maju Maritime Pte. Ltd. who have ordered one unit each. The two tugs are expected to use bunkering services provided by the joint venture company, FueLNG Ltd. The tugs will be built to Keppel's proprietary design which won the Outstanding Maritime R&D and Technology Award at the 2015 Singapore International Maritime Awards.

Ecoslops' refinery in the Port of Sinès, Portugal, has commenced industrial production and delivered the first volume of marine fuel products compliant with ISO8217, validating the company’s commercial proposition, the company announced today. Ecoslops has also made two senior appointments, further developing its global infrastructure, including new facilities. In the third quarter of 2015, 3,200 metric tons of slops were imported from Northern Europe, in conjunction with slops collected in the port, mainly at the oil terminal and from MSC, the leading global container shipping company.
