KR and Partners Sign LCO2 Carrier Design MoU

Korean Register (KR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with K Shipbuilding, Sunbo Industries and Dongsung Finetec to jointly develop a 12,000cbm liquefied CO2 (LCO2) carrier design during Gastech 2023 in Singapore.The companies believe that as carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technologies become increasingly important in decarbonization policies, the demand for LCO2 carriers to transport captured CO2 by sea is expected to grow significantly.K Shipbuilding will lead the development and design optimization of a medium-pressure LCO2 carrier with a design pressure of 19 bar.

China Investigating Senior Executive at CSIC

China's anti-graft agency said on Saturday it is investigating the general manager of state-owned China Shipbuilding Industry Corp (CSIC).Sun Bo is suspected of serious disciplinary and legal violations, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) said on its website.(Reporting by Andrew Galbraith; Editing by Adrian Croft)

20,000 TEU Cosco Shipping Gemini Delivered

The 20,000 TEU containership Cosco Shipping Gemini was officially named and delivered. The vessel was built by the Chinese shipyard Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC) for Chinese owner Cosco Shipping Lines. Chief Financial Officer of Cosco Shipping, Sun Yueyin, attended the naming ceremony. She named the vessel and cut the ribbon. President and Deputy Party Secretary of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), Sun Bo; Party Secretary of Cosco Shipping Lines, Qian Weizhong; Chairman and Party Secretary of DSIC, Liu Zheng; as well as other guests and representatives from Cosco Shipping, CSIC, Cosco Shipping Lines, DSIC, DNV-GL Group and China Classification Society (CCS) were also present at the event on invitation.

China Ocean Orders Four VLCC's

COSCO Group has ordered 4 Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC) from China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC). The ceremony was attended by Chairman Ma Zehua, President Li Yunpeng, Chief Financial Officer Sun Yueying, and Executive Vice President Ye Weilong of COSCO Group, as well as President Li Changyin, Executive Vice President Dong Qiang and Executive Vice President Sun Bo from CSIC. COSCO inform that managers and executives from relevant departments and subsidiaries of the two companies also attended the ceremony.

China Shipbuilder Ponders Overseas Yard Acquisition

China Shipbuilding Industry Corp (CSIC) says it has had advanced talks with a European shipbuilder so far. Despite the travails of the lack of orders at home one of China’s shipbuilding majors is looking at taking advantage of the downturn by acquiring some overseas yards to boost its technology expertise, reports Sinoship News. China Shipbuilding Industry Corp (CSIC), the state-run entity that controls many northern Chinese yards, said recently that  it had held advanced talks with one European shipbuilder so far. "The talks did not bear any fruit but they did help us gain experience in negotiating with European companies," a senior executive, Sun Bo  said recently. "We will continue pursuing the idea (of mergers and acquisitions of European shipbuilding companies)," he added.

ABS Elects New Council

At the 150th Annual Meeting of the Members of ABS, three industry leaders were elected to the ABS Council. Following the Annual Meeting, the ABS Council met and elected industry leaders to both its Marine and Offshore Technical Committees. Individuals serving on the ABS Council and the Technical Committees help guide the class society in fulfilling its mission of promoting the security of life, property and the natural environment. “Classification represents the concept of self-regulation for the marine and offshore industry,” said ABS President and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki.
