Plenty Ships Wins Chinese Ferry Order

CoCo Yachts – Plenty Ships has won an order with Zhuhai Fast Ferry Company to build two aluminum high speed ferries. Zhuhai Fast Ferry Company has several fast ferries in its fleet, including two CoCo Yachts designed Coastal Cruiser 288, which are sailing between Zhuhai port and the Chinese Ferry Terminal in Hong Kong. The new designed Coastal Cruisers 356 will start the service between Zhuhai and the islands in the Pearl River delta. The new vessels will be designed and built in accordance with the China Classification Society Rules 2015 and IMO High Speed Code 2000…

Xunlong Shenzhen Orders Dutch-designed Ferry

CoCo Yachts B.V. Xunlong Shenzhen Ferry Company has ordered a Coastal Cruiser 300 ferry from CoCo Yachts, a Dutch design company specializing in the design of aluminum catamarans. The ferry’s hull and superstructure, which the designer said has been optimized for high speeds in combination with good sea keeping performance, will be made of marine grade aluminum. The vessel’s interior will be made of lightweight materials, and luxuriously outfitted, CoCo Yachts said. A semi ducted fain coil split type high capacity air-conditioning system will provide either cool or warm air.

Bulk Jupiter Search and Rescue Ongoing

No new crewmembers or debris from the sunken vessel Bulk Jupiter have been detected during the recent search operations, ship’s owner Gearbulk Holding Limited reported. A fleet of vessels and planes, under direction of the Vietnamese Coast Guard are participating in the operations from where Bulk Jupiter issued distress signals. The Gearbulk vessel Sunbird Arrow is also assisting the SAR operation. A representative from Gearbulk's Bergen office has travelled to Vung Tao, Vietnam, where the surviving Cook and the bodies of the two deceased arrived yesterday. The cook was initially shielded from the public and taken to a hospital for appropriate medical attention before he was able to meet with authorities.

China (Shanghai) International Boat Show (CIBS) participating companies preview China's boating market. On April 11th 2013 the China (Shanghai) International Boat Show  (CIBS) comes of age to shows itself a key player in the Chinese water leisure market. CIBS has grown virtually every year since its birth in an underground car park 18 years ago and 2013 is no exception with its exhibition area up by 37% to 48,000 sq m, confirmed booths so far up 20% and a projected trade up around 30% to 3Bn RMB.

MarAd Announces Ship Disposal Contracts

The Maritime Administration (MARAD) has awarded new contracts to dismantle two ships from the James River Reserve Fleet at Fort Eustis, VA, the agency announced today. The work will go to Bay Bridge Enterprises, LLC, of Chesapeake, VA. The two ships will bring to 14 the number of ships that have left the James River site for disposal in the past year, and to 41 the number that have left since January of 2001. Bay Bridge Enterprises, which has dismantled six other ships for MARAD in the past two years, was awarded two contracts: one to dismantle the Sunbird, for $85,920, and another to scrap the Mizar, for $243,900. The Sunbird, a Chanticleer-class submarine rescue ship, was built in Savannah, GA and launched in April 1946.

QEII Again Stirs Repair Interests

Interest in the European cruise ship repair market is currently focused on which shipyard will win the $31.3 million contract to repair the 1968-built, 70,327-grt cruiseship Queen Elizabeth II, owned by Cunard Line. There are currently three shipyards shortlisted for the work — Bremerhaven’s Lloyd Werft, Hamburg’s Blohm + Voss Repair and the U.K.’s A&P Southampton. The contract is expected to be awarded soon, with the drydocking dates scheduled for between November 12 and December 11. Now part of the Carnival Cruise Lines (CCL) group, Cunard has also announced the drydocking programs for two other cruiseships in its fleet — the 1973-built…
