SAM Electronics Bags Royal Malaysian Navy Order

L-3 SAM Electronics announced today that it has been awarded a contract to provide the electrical distribution system for six Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN). The ships will be built at the Boustead Naval Shipyard in Lumut, Malaysia, with Design Authority provided by DCNS of France. Deliveries are scheduled between 2017 and 2021. “We are extremely proud to be selected to provide our state-of-the-art technology for the Royal Malaysian Navy’s newest class of ships,” said Armin Groth, managing director of integrated systems at L-3 SAM Electronics. “This latest project follows the earlier successful completion of similar work we performed for the RMN’s fleet of six Offshore Patrol Vessels.

Electrical Equipment Ordered for New Malaysian Navy Ships

L-3 SAM Electronics has been awarded a contract to provide the electrical distribution system for six Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), the company announced today. The ships will be built at the Boustead Naval Shipyard in Lumut, Malaysia, with Design Authority provided by DCNS of France. Deliveries are scheduled between 2017 and 2021. The contract makes L-3 SAM Electronics responsible for total project management, planning, engineering and supervision on-site for all cable work, including installation aboard the vessels. It will also coordinate and interface all relevant systems and subsystems as part of a common electrical platform system.

HEM takeover Makes Cathelco Water Treatment Leader

Cathelco, the world leading manufacturers of equipment for ships, have acquired Hydro-Electrique Marine (HEM) the French specialists in desalinators and water treatment systems. The acquisition will make Cathelco one of the largest producers of shipboard water treatment systems in Europe and the premier supplier to the superyacht industry. “The new venture will operate under the name of Cathelco HEM emphasising the strength of two well known brand names and creating a stronger presence in the water treatment market”, said Justin Salisbury, managing director of Cathelco Ltd. Cathelco already have experience of the desalinator market having purchased Seafresh Desalinators in 2010, a small company serving the UK market which they transformed into an international exporter of watermakers.

IHC Merwede to Deliver New FPSO Offloading Systems

IHC Merwede has announced that it has signed two new contracts for the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) delivery of offloading system packages for five FPSO vessels (floating production storage and offloading). The first of these packages will be placed on to one of MODEC’s FPSO vessels under its lease agreement with Petrobras. The others have been for the conversion of four additional FPSO vessels for Petrobras by the Brazilian offshore shipbuilding company, Estaleiro Enseada do Paraguaçu SA (EEP). Wärtsilä to Provide Harvey Gulf Vessels Integrated Package

Wärtsilä has been awarded a contract by Eastern Shipbuilding Group, of Panama City, Florida to supply an integrated solution for a new multipurpose support vessel (MPSV) for Harvey Gulf International Marine of New Orleans. This offshore vessel is the first in a series of three MPSVs being built for Harvey Gulf. The Wärtsilä contract includes an option for the supply of equipment to the remaining two vessels of the series. Kongsberg Contracted for Four Drillships and Six Options

Kongsberg was awarded an offshore integrated monitoring and control system contract with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME). The contract covers deliveries to four Transocean owned newbuild drillships, with an option for Kongsberg to deliver products and services for six more drillships. "We call this a 'full picture' solution, as it includes dynamic positioning, position reference systems, thruster control, integrated automation systems, riser management and environmental monitoring within the same project.

DDG 1000: Milestone at U.S. Navy Test SIte

Converteam in partnership with the U.S. Navy have successfully tested the DDG 1000’s high voltage Integrated Power System (IPS)(1) to full power at the Land Based Test Site located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. DDG 1000 is the first U.S. Navy surface combatant to leverage this technology—an all-electric architecture providing electric power for both propulsion and ship services. As the integrated power systems provider, Converteam is responsible for the entire program’s high voltage system design, commissioning and testing at the land based test site. The test demonstrated full power operations of the IPS, which is a major milestone prior to delivery of equipment to the ship.
