The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) on Wednesday announced $20.8 million in grant awards to 27 small shipyards in 20 states through the Small Shipyard Grant Program. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) on Monday awarded $19.6 million in grants aiming to help 31 shipyards modernize, increase productivity, and expand local employment opportunities while competing in the global marketplace.The grants were awarded to shipbuilding and repair yards in 15 states throughout the U.S. as part of MARAD's Small Shipyard Grant Program. Since 2008, the program has awarded $262.5 million to nearly 300 shipyards in 32 states and territories.

Aiming to support shipbuilding modernizations that will increase productivity and allow U.S. shipyards to compete more effectively in global markets, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) has awarded $9.8 million to 18 U.S. yards through its Small Shipyard Grant Program. “Small shipyards play a significant role in our country’s maritime sector, which contributes to our economy, security, and infrastructure,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. High pressure waterjetting/waterblasting and industrial vacuum equipment play an integral role in industrial cleaning/recovery and surface preparation. The 2011 WJTA-IMCA Conference and Expo, to be held September 19-21, 2011, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, will focus on sharing information about the technology, equipment, and safety practices with industrial cleaning contractors and company representatives who contract for these services. “We invite all industrial cleaning contractors and end users who use the equipment or who are considering purchasing or renting the equipment to attend,” says association manager Ken Carroll.
