The winning team receives the prize for its development of critical expertise which has helped ensure StatoilHydro’s position in developing subsea fields and long-distance multiphase pipeline transportation and for its long-term cooperation with the petroleum industry. Simulation and modeling of how multiphase compounds behave during transportation are difficult tasks. The possibility of predicting turbulence in liquid flows is still an unsolved problem in applied mathematics today. Ever since 1980 the research team has worked on projects to enhance the understanding of multiphase phenomena. StatoilHydro’s research prize comprises over $28K and a work of art by the Norwegian artist Kjell Nupen.
