Thales, a major system integrator in Canada, has chosen Raytheon Anschütz as the supplier of the Integrated Navigation System (INS) for the Canadian Coast Guard’s (CCG) new Offshore Fisheries Science Vessels (OFSV). As part of the OFSV program, three new vessels are being built for the CCG at Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards. The 63-metre vessels are designed to operate in the Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic Oceans. Their mission profile is to conduct fishing and acoustic surveys and collect oceanographic data to monitor changes in the ecosystem.

While the Integrated Bridge increasingly plays a bigger role in various shipbuilding programs, in many cases the degree of integration can be limited and does not allows a fully functional integration of different navigation systems or further ship systems on the bridge. In tandem there has been an increasing demand for higher level integrated bridge systems, which was reasonably driven by more sophisticated and safety-sensitive vessels such as cruise ships, specialized vessels and few oil tankers.

Raytheon to unveil at upcoming CANSEC 2013 Expo an onboard navigation simulator that allows operators to train with the system they will use at sea. Raytheon Anschuetz, a German based, indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of Raytheon Company, developed the embedded, simulation-based training system in partnership with Canadian-based Virtual Marine Technology (VMT) to enhance the realism and effectiveness of training offered to operators of Anschuetz's Integrated Navigation System.

Germany's Raytheon Anschütz to exhibit its new, IMO-certified Synapsis Intelligent Bridge Control system & maintenance-free gyro compass Horizon MF. Horizon MF is Raytheon Anschütz’ new strap down compass system which uses Hemispherical Resonator Gyros to measure angular rates for heading calculation. Horizon MF comes as a maintenance-free sensor with an outstanding lifetime performance and is presented at Nor-Shipping for the first time ever. Horizon MF seamlessly integrates into a Standard 22 gyro compass system and into the Synapsis Intelligent Bridge Control system. The Synapsis Intelligent Bridge Control system is the first – and so far only - Integrated Navigation System (INS) which is type approved according to the new IMO Performance Standard MSC.252(83).
