VIDEO: Maritime Autonomy: Damen, Sea Machines Announce Alliance

Damen and Sea Machines Robotics today signed an alliance that has the promise to help fast track maritime autonomy, an agreement to further investigate the adoption of collision avoidance functionality on board of Damen vessels. New generation Transas simulator for Broome Maritime Simulation Centre

Kimberley TAFE Broome Maritime Simulation Centre has extended its range of services by selecting a Transas Full Mission Transas Simulator. The Transas Marine will upgrade the existing simulation centre to provide one of the most advanced marine trainings and R&D tools in the Australia. The simulation suite includes a main bridge and a tug station for a new port development, training of pilots and tug masters. Chinese Shipyard Uses Friendship-Framework

Chinese shipbuilder New Times Shipbuilding Co., Ltd (NTS) introduces simulation-driven design to its product development. NTS has signed a contractual agreement with GL's maritime software developer Friendship Systems. The contract includes the licensing of engineering software and design support for the development of a large crude oil tanker. By introducing the simulation-driven design software the shipyard aims to improve the efficiency of its products, streamlining its design work and increasing its competitiveness.

High Capacity At-Sea Transfer System Under Development

A team led by Rolls-Royce has been selected to develop and deliver an integrated high-capacity ship-to-ship cargo transfer system concept for the US Navy's Office of Naval Research (ONR). materials, personnel and equipment in heavy seas. This high-capacity alongside sea-based sustainment (HiCASS) award is the first of several phases and is valued at $1million. Ultimately, HiCASS could be worth as much as $20 million as the project moves through demonstration and initial production phases over three years.

Industry-Wide Interoperability Investment Paying Off

The Integrated Shipbuilding Environment (ISE) project sponsored by the National Shipbuilding Research Program is a three-year effort to develop and deploy an industry-wide architecture for computer interoperability. ISE is targeting cost and cycle time reduction for both Navy and commercial customers by providing real-time digital connectivity between shipbuilders and their suppliers. ISE also targets the total ownership costs during the 40-year life of a ship in that it provides access to configuration data during the life of a ship or ship class - regardless of computer system upgrades. The expected benefits of this project are very high.
