EBDG Unveils Harbor Power and Charging Barge Design

Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering firm Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) last week unveiled the design for a new barge engineered to offer power and charging to vessels in ports and harbors.Delivering 7 megawatts (MW) of continuous power generated by methanol, the 225-foot-long floating mobile platform is capable of cold ironing to minimize emissions from large vessels both at the pier and at anchor for up to two weeks before refueling.In addition, it offers double duty as an "in-field" DC charging station for electric harbor tugs and other smaller service vessels.

Danish Fuel Supplier, CEO Convicted Over Jet Fuel Exports to Syria

Kalmar to Help Bimbo's Ops at Mexico

Kalmar has concluded a deal to supply a total of three Kalmar Ottawa Electric Terminal Tractors T2E to the Mexican bakery product manufacturer Bimbo.Kalmar, part of Cargotec, said in a press release that the order was booked in Cargotec's 2019 Q1 order intake, with delivery of the machines scheduled to take place during Q3 of 2019.Bimbo is the largest baking company in the world, with 199 plants and more than 1,800 sales centres across 32 countries throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa.The company has one of the largest direct distribution networks in the world, distributing products including fresh and frozen sliced bread, buns and cookies. LNG Shipping on Recovery Path: Golar

The shipping market recovery is underway, says Golar LNG. Shipping demand has exceeded supply growth for the first time since 2013. "The shipping market is showing strong signs of improving. As of today, the effective time charter rates being achieved in 4Q are more than twice that recorded in 3Q. An improving trend is expected to continue into 2018-2019 when shipping supply should lag demand created by increased production. At full utilization, every $10,000 increase in shipping rates equates to approximately $40 million additional annual operating cash flows across the entire fleet," says a statement from the company. Demand growth has been supported by a combination of additional liquefaction volumes and rising ton miles.

Australian Coal Port Expansion Contract

BMT & Adani Mining Pty Ltd (Adani) to design expansion at the Adani Abbot Point Coal Terminal at Abbot Point, north of Mackay, Queensland. The collaboration will involve BMT engineers from Australia (BMT WBM) and India (BMT Consultants (India)) working closely together with Adani at its head office in Ahmedabad, India. The proposed ‘T0’ expansion of the coal terminal at Abbot Point will have a capacity of 70 million tons per annum of product coal and together with the existing ‘T1’ terminal, will deliver a total capacity of 120 million tons per annum.

Festive Season Subsea Contracts for DeepOcean

Within days of eachother Deep Ocean secures subsea offshore contracts in Australia, and in the North Sea. DeepOcean UK, Ltd., a subsidiary of DeepOcean Group Holding BV, contracted by Statoil AS for the installation and trenching of a Permanent Reservoir Monitoring (PRM) System on the Snorre oil field in the North Sea, Norwegian Sector. The project represents DeepOcean UK’s largest ever contract award. The multi-year project commences in 2013 and consists of the installation and trenching of circa 500km of subsea seismic cables and associated riser in water depths in excess of 300m. Once installed, the large seismic monitoring array will assist Statoil in increasing oil recovery from the Snorre reservoir throughout the field’s life.

New Vessel Deliveries

Seacraft Shipyard Corp., Amelia, La., recently delivered M/V Sea Holly, a 110 ft. live-aboard long range yacht, designed for extended excursions. The entire exterior of the vessel was faired and painted to a yacht-quality finish and the bottom of the vessel was coated with a high-performance anti-fouling paint.
