PSA Marine Takes Delivery of Two New Tugs

Singapore's PSA Marine recently took delivery of two new 32-meter harbor tugs, PSA Marvel and PSA Valkyrie, from PaxOcean Engineering Zhuhai Co.The newbuilds, which follow the PSA Thor and PSA Hulk delivered from the same builder in 2018, are of the same basic design with some improvements, said naval architect Robert Allan Ltd.The RAmparts 3200 ASD tugs are designed for ship assist in berthing and un-berthing operations at ports/terminals, coastal towing operations and in addition are capable of escort service.

DP World Orders Terminal Tractors at Kalmar

Kalmar to Help Bimbo's Ops at Mexico

Kalmar has concluded a deal to supply a total of three Kalmar Ottawa Electric Terminal Tractors T2E to the Mexican bakery product manufacturer Bimbo.Kalmar, part of Cargotec, said in a press release that the order was booked in Cargotec's 2019 Q1 order intake, with delivery of the machines scheduled to take place during Q3 of 2019.Bimbo is the largest baking company in the world, with 199 plants and more than 1,800 sales centres across 32 countries throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa.The company has one of the largest direct distribution networks in the world, distributing products including fresh and frozen sliced bread, buns and cookies. LNG Trade to Increase by 10% in 2020

Dominated by new U.S. volumes, liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade is expected to increase by 10 percent per annum from 290 million tons in 2017 to around 388 million tons in 2020, said Golar LNG.According to industry analysts, ton mile demand is expected to increase by more than 40 percent over the same time frame. JLT Mobile Computers Selected by DCT Gdansk

JLT Mobile Computers has delivered 47 of its JLT VERSO+ 10 rugged mobile vehicle computers with the most compact form factor in its class to the new T2 deep-water terminal at DCT Gdansk in Poland. Located in the heart of the Baltic, DCT Gdansk is Poland’s largest container facility, and the only deep-water terminal in the Baltic Sea region. The rugged mobile vehicle computers, supplied by IT systems engineering company and JLT partner Autepra, have been installed on Kalmar T2 terminal tractors. Running industry leading Navis N4 Terminal Operating System (TOS) software, they form part of a larger development program undertaken by DCT to open a second 650 m long, deep-water berth at the T2 terminal, which will double the handling capacity of DCT Gdansk to 3M TEU per year.

Kalmar Bags Gulftainer Order

Kalmar signed an agreement with Gulftainer Lebanon SAL to supply six Kalmar T2 terminal tractors and one Kalmar DCF80-45E7 empty container handler. The order was booked in Cargotec's 2016 third quarter order intake and the first delivery will take place in October 2016. The rest of the order will be delivered during the first quarter of 2017. Established in 1976, Gulftainer is a privately owned, independent port management and third-party logistics company based in the United Arab Emirates. The company's international presence spans the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas, with port activities in the UAE, Iraq, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon. Floating Tidal Energy Platform Up and Running

The first months of operating the BlueTEC tidal energy platform have been a success, according to the BlueTEC Texel Tidal partnership: with every tidal flow, the platform supplies electricity into the Dutch national grid. The success has led project partners to work toward developing plans for the installation of a second, larger turbine. “Getting the platform from the drawing board to a grid-connected operating reality in just six months is amazing,” said Allard van Hoeken, Head of New Energy at Bluewater Energy Services and recent recipient of the first Prince Friso Engineers Award.

Bay-Houston Towing Accepts New Tugboat

Bay-Houston Towing Co. announced it has taken delivery of the first Z Tech 2400 tugboat, the Chloe K, designed by Robert Allan Ltd. of Vancouver, and built by Leevac Shipyards LLC of Jennings, La. The Z Tech 2400 tugs are a smaller version of the Z Tech 7500 tugs that are already in Bay-Houston Towing Co.’s fleet. While they are smaller, they have enormous power for their size. •The forward deck (over the skeg) has a low, flat sheer, creating a spacious, relatively flat and safe working deck, without any obstructive anchor chains, etc.

DP World Chairman welcomes mega-vessel to Jebel Ali port's new 1 million TEU Terminal 2 expansion. HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman, DP World, officially opened the new extension to Container Terminal 2 (T2) at flagship Jebel Ali Port, welcoming one of the largest container ships afloat, the MSC La Spezia. A red carpet welcome was given to the 366-metre long vessel, which has 14,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent container units) capacity. The expansion adds 1 million TEU to take capacity at Jebel Ali Port to 15 million TEU, extending the T2 quay wall by 400 metres to 3,000 metres.

Dubai's Ports Container Throughput Milestone

DP World celebrates the 100 millionth container to pass through DP World, UAE Region terminals in ten years. The 100 million TEU record was achieved between January 2003 and January 2013 and covers all container boxes handled in both Mina Rashid and Jebel Ali Port. DP World, UAE Region’s annual container throughput increased more than 150% over the decade, from around five million TEU in 2003 to 13.3 million TEU in 2012. Dual-fuel marine diesel engine newcomer L35/44DF offers full flexibiltiy. MAN Diesel & Turbo introduce its L35/44DF engine, the latest addition to its four-stroke portfolio. Spurred on by developments in environmental legislation and the strict  emission limits resulting from that, the new engine offers dual diesel fuel-gas running and can also be introduced as a retrofit to engines already in service. The first prototype entered its test phase at the beginning of 2012’s second quarter at MAN Diesel & Turbo’s Augsburg facility. Ohio to Depart Beaumont Reserve Fleet

The combination container vessel SS Ohio is scheduled to depart the Beaumont Reserve Fleet on Tuesday, April 19, 2011. The vessel was recently sold for recycling to ESCO Marine, Inc. and its departure will reduce the number of non-retention vessels awaiting disposal from the Beaumont Reserve Fleet to eight. The Ohio was built in 1967 as a combination railway car/container-carrying vessel for Seatrain Lines, Inc. of New York. Named Seatrain Ohio, the vessel was constructed by recombining modified sections from three WWII T2 class tankers. The ship was the last of seven such converted vessels that were fitted with tracks and other special equipment so that railcars could move directly from the docks into the ship’ holds. The ship spent its active career on charter to the U.S.

Vosta Gets Order for Cutter Suction Dredge

Vosta LMG has been awarded a contract for a cutter suction dredge CSD750 by International Seaport Dredging Ltd., a joint venture company of the Belgian dredging major Dredging International (member of the DEME group) and the Indian construction giant Larsen & Toubro. The dredge will be used for dredging projects throughout India due to the growing demand from the Indian market for dredging operations. The mono hull cutter suction dredge design and characteristics has been defined in close co-operation with the client and can be operated in shallow waters. It will be equipped with a Vosta LMG underwater dredge pump and inboard pump both type VL750, a hydraulically driven Vosta T2 cutter head and a Vosta LMG wire system spud carrier.

Marseilles Confirms Development Link

A development partnership including the Port of Marseilles Authority (PMA) has outlined plans for further expansion of inland waterways traffic following 60% growth in five years. The latest objectives, focusing on container and dry bulk trades for the period 2008-2012, maintain a co-operation agreement signed in 2002 by the port, waterways authority Voies Navigables de France and the Compagnie Nationale du Rhone (CNR) covering 550km of waterways in the Rhone-Saone corridor. In the first five years of the initiative, total cargo volumes for containers, oil products and dry/liquid bulks rose from 1.8 to 2.7million tonnes, giving the waterways a 5.34% share of hinterland traffic compared with 3.65% in 2002.

W&D Wins Two Contracts to Fill New Building

Washburn & Doughty signed contracts with Suderman & Young Towing and the Bay-Houston Towing to build each company one Robert Allan LTD designed Z-Tech 7500 Class Terminal/Escort Tug. The Z-Tech 7500 is a twin screw ASD ship-handling/escort tug, a 98.5 x 39.4 ft. vessel designed for berthing and unberthing large ships and for providing escort, emergency response, and fire-fighting capabilities in the vicinity of oil and LNG terminals. The tugs will be operated by the G&H Towing Company of , and will be used primarily at Sempra LNG’s Cameron LNG terminal. The ABS-classed tugs will feature two MTU Detroit Diesel 16 cylinder series 4000 Marine Engines with M70 Rating…
