Kuryk port, located in the Mangystau region of Kazakhstan, has opened its new ferry complex.Officials of relevant government agencies and representatives of private companies from Georgia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Iran, China, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan attended the event with the participation of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.The Kuryk port is located on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and plays an exceptional role in increasing freight traffic in this direction. The launch of the new ferry complex will also create favorable conditions to a significant increase in the flow of cargo. This will contribute not only to the development of Kazakhstan, but the region as a whole.

Nitin Gadkari, the Union  Minister for Shipping, India said in Dushanbe, that India is trying to make Chabahar Port in Iran operational by 2019. Gadkari was addressing the Indian Community at the inauguration of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre at the Indian Embassy in Dushanbe. He said the opening up of the Chabahar Port would make the CIS countries more accessible. Shri Gadkari also spoke at length about the efforts and initiatives taken by his Government in the last four years to bring qualitative change in the lives of people. He talked about the massive work being done in the infrastructure sector, with National Highways being built at an unprecedented pace of 28km/day.

Tajikistan is interested in supplying cargoes to international markets through the Caspian Sea, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Azerbaijan to Azerbaijan Soli Rustam said during his visit to the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ACS). Federation of Freight Forwarders’ Associations in India (FFFAI) convened conference and a meeting at FFFAI – Mumbai office of its members with Mr. Ravi Capoor, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce to brief members on International North South Transport Corridor (INSTC). FFFAI is doing a dry run study of the bottlenecks on the INSTC route. Mr. Ravi Capoor in his briefing said that there are 4 emerging markets in the world, namely ASEAN, LATIN, AFRICAN and CIS countries. Indian companies are trading with ASEAN, LATIN, AFRICAN, countries but till date their presence in CIS countries is not substantial. He said that after 1991 when integrated USSR collapsed, there was huge economic mayhem and during the same period simultaneously in India there was economic liberalization.

Thailand at forefront of movement to build a 21st century network of land, sea and air routes to strengthen Asia. The Silk Road was a centuries-old network of linked trade routes across the Afro-Eurasian landmass that connected East, South and Western Asia with the Mediterranean and European world, as well as parts of North and East Africa. China says it will join Russia in naval war games starting next month in the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea. The official Xinhua News Agency quoted Defense Ministry spokesman Yang Yujun as saying that the exercise will begin in late April and run into May. The specific locations were not disclosed.
