First Shore-to-ship LNG Bunkering for SIEM Car Carrier

Eagle LNG marked a series of firsts when it fueled the 7,500-car carrier SIEM Aristotle from its Talleyrand LNG Bunker Station at the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) in Jacksonville, Fla. It was the first time SIEM has refueled the vessel from a landside bunkering facility and the first ship that Eagle LNG refueled of that size from the bunkering facility.SIEM Aristotle is the first deep-sea pure car, truck carrier (PCTC) equipped with dual-fuel engines, designed to operate on LNG and marine gas oil (MGO).

Crowley Adds New Container Shipping Service

Crowley Maritime Corporation announced that it is launching a new weekly fixed-day container shipping service between Jacksonville and Costa Rica. The service’s two containerships will call at the Jacksonville Port Authority’s Talleyrand Terminal, making port calls in Jacksonville on Thursdays, Port Everglades, Fla., on Fridays, and arrive in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica, on Wednesdays. “We are confident this service enhancement will add a new dimension to our portfolio of Latin America services and bring increased efficiency and savings to our customers…

Thomas Crowley Award to Michel & Weist

Suz Michel, director of people development and learning for Crowley in Seattle, and Bob Weist, vice president of sales and marketing for the logistics group were awarded 2008 Thomas Crowley trophies, the company's highest honor, at ceremonies yesterday at the company's Talleyrand terminal in Jacksonville, Fla. Created in 1985, only 50 of the company's 4,300-plus employees have been recognized with the limited edition, bronze sculpture depicting young Thomas Crowley as he ferried goods to and from ships on San Francisco Bay in the early 1890s.

Gulf Africa Line to Call Port of Jacksonville

Gulf Africa Line (GAL) will begin U.S. East Coast port calls in Jacksonville, effective with Blue Master voyage 0504 (northbound) and 1204 (southbound). "In our ongoing effort to create greater value for customers, we have identified significant opportunities in Jacksonville for a large portion of the range of cargoes we regularly carry," said David Groves, GAL Owner's Representative, located in Houston, TX. In order to maintain schedule integrity, the Port of Savannah will no longer be served as of the same Blue Master voyages. Weist Promoted at Crowley

Crowley announced that Bob Weist has been promoted to director of inland operations for the company's Puerto Rico/Caribbean liner services group effective March 15. In his new role, Weist will relocate from the New Orleans area to Jacksonville, Fla. He will be domiciled at the company's Talleyrand terminal and will report to Maureen Cunningham, vice president, operations. Weist began his career with Crowley in 1987 in the company's New Jersey office. Since then, he has held positions of increasing responsibility in several different Crowley locations. Most recently he managed Crowley's operations in the U.S. Gulf from New Orleans with particular focus on the company's terminal operations in Gulfport, Miss.
