Silja Symphony Adopts nauticAi Log Electronic Logbooks

Northern Baltic Sea ferry operator Tallink Grupp, which operates vessels under the Silja Line and Tallink brands, has selected the Finnish-developed nauticAi Log type approved electronic record book for its fleet of ships, with the Swedish-flagged cruise ferry Silja Symphony as the first one to go paperless. “We switched to paperless engine logbooks here on Silja Symphony from 1 June and feel that this is a good step towards even more modern and digitalised operations as well as our overall sustainability goal of going paperless.

Tallink Charters Out Additional Vessel to COP26

Tallink Grupp announced it recently signed a charter agreement for its Latvian-flagged cruise vessel Romantika, which has also been hired to provide accommodation at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), taking place in Glasgow, Scotland on October 31– November 12.Several weeks ago, the company said it signed a charter agreement for its Tallinn-Helsinki route cruise vessel Silja Europa to provide accommodation services at the global climate conference in Glasgow from October 21 to November 14.

MAN Reenters Finnish Market with Baltic Order

RMC to Build Ferries for TT-Line

Finnish shipbuilding company Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) and Australian TT-Line Company have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on two fast car and passenger ferries.The Project will have an impact on employment totalling around 3,500 person-years, and the construction work will start at the beginning of 2021, said a press release from the company specialized in constructing car ferries, icebreakers and naval vessels.”We are proud and grateful of the trust TT-Line Company has shown us. Høglund to Supply FGSS for Tallink

Tallink to Repair Silja Europa at Turku Yard

Tallink Enters Singapore

Estonian shipping company Tallink Grupp has announced establishing a subsidiary in Singapore this week – Tallink Asia Pte Ltd – which is the group’s first subsidiary in Asia. Tallink Seeking Name for New Ferry

Tallink Gets Finance for LNG Ferry

Estonian shipping company Tallink Tallink Grupp has borrowed  EUR 197.6 million to finance the new EUR 247 million LNG powered fast ferry currently under construction in Rauma Marine Constructions Oy.The loan agreement was concluded between AS Tallink Grupp subsidiary Tallink Superfast Ltd. and KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH, the shipper said.The loan is arranged and long term financing is provided by KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH. Eesti Completes 1,500th LNG Bunkering

Estonian energy company Eesti Gaas completed the 1,500th liquefied natural gas bunkering operation at the Tallinn old city harbor with the Megastar ferry operating between Tallinn and Helsinki.Megastar is serviced by eight Eesti Gaas’s trailer carriers which were purchased especially for this purpose.“LNG supply has been reliable, and no problems occurred in the thousand times the vessel was bunkered. Wärtsilä,Tallink Ink Megastar Maintenance Deal

Wärtsilä has signed a five-year maintenance agreement with Estonia based AS Tallink Grupp for its new RoPax ferry M/S Megastar on the Tallinn - Helsinki route across the Gulf of Finland. Megastar, due to start operation on January 29, 2017, is powered by Wärtsilä dual-fuel engines which operate primarily on liquefied natural gas (LNG), to meet the requirements of environmental legislation. Under the agreement Wärtsilä said it will optimize the vessel's performance, enhance its availability and reliability, and improve financial predictability for the customer. The service agreement also covers Wärtsilä's Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) and online remote support.

LNG Ferry Megastar Delivered to Tallink

Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku Shipyard delivered the state-of-the-art LNG fast ferry Megastar to owner Tallink on January 24. The newly built ferry will begin plying the Helsinki-Tallinn route on January 29 as the most technologically advanced fast ferry in the Baltic Sea. The 212-meter-long Megastar uses liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel, but is also able to run on marine diesel. With LNG, the vessel will create no sulphur or soot particles and decreasing the nitrogen and CO2 emissions.

Tallink Christens LNG Ferry Megastar

A new LNG-driven fast ferry Megastar was christened in Meyer Turku shipyard for owner/operator Tallink Grupp. The environmentally sound ship was christened on July 1 by former president of Finland Tarja Halonen. First steel was cut for Megastar on August 4, 2015, and the keel was laid on February 9, 2016. Float-out and sea-trials are planned for July and the last months of 2016, respectively, followed by delivery planned to take place in the beginning of 2017. Janek Stalmeister, CEO of AS Tallink Grupp, said that the process of completing the ship is now almost halfway done.

Meyer Turku Lays Keel of Tallink’s LNG Ferry

The hull assembly of Tallink’s new fast ferry Megastar started today at the Meyer Turku shipyard with traditional ceremonies. When ready, the new fast ferry will be a pinnacle of ship sustainability and efficiency at Baltic Sea. In addition to its environmentally friendly LNG propulsion, Megastar will have new hull designed by Meyer Turku, resulting in less water resistance and easy sailing in icy conditions. The keel-laying ceremony was witnessed by more than 100 guests from Meyer Turku, Tallink and classification society Bureau Veritas.

LNG Ferry Construction for Tallink Begins

The start of production of Tallink's new generation LNG powered fast ferry for the Tallinn-Helsinki route was celebrated on the 4th of August 2015 at Meyer Turku shipyard. The new ferry will be approximately 212 metres in length with a gross tonnage of 49 000. The ship will operate on the route between Helsinki and Tallinn and she is designed for carrying 2800 passengers. The service speed is 27 knots. The ship will be delivered from Meyer Turku in the beginning of 2017. The project gives approximately 2000 person-years of employment for the shipyard and the supplier network. The new environmentally friendly ship uses LNG as fuel and she will comply with the new and stricter emission regulations for the ECA areas including the Baltic Sea.

Linde's LNG Fuel Gas System for High-speed Ferry

The Linde Group, via its Swedish Engineering subsidiary Cryo AB, has been awarded a contract by Meyer Turku Shipyard of Finland to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel gas system for the next-generation high-speed ferry being built for AS Tallink Grupp. The ferry will operate in the Baltic Sea between Helsinki, Finland and Tallinn, Estonia and has been designed to comply with the European Emission Control Area (ECA) limits thanks to the use of LNG as fuel. The large-scale ferry will be built at Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland for delivery in the beginning of 2017. The vessel will be about 212 meters in length with a gross tonnage of 49,000.
