ABS Awards Smart Notation to AET’s Eagle Passos

Sovcomflot's 1H Profit Jumps 149%

Russian energy shipping company Sovcomflot reported a net profit for the first half of 2020 of $226,4 million, a 148.8 percent increase to last year's first-half income of $91 million. The first half 2020 revenue was $951,3 million, up from $794,1 million in the first half of 2019.Igor Tonkovidov, President and CEO of SCF Group said  Friday that the company had achieved its targets with an optimal balance of long- and short-term charter contracts, together with a rational geographic distribution of vessels.

Stena Bulk Offering Biofuel as an Option

Shipping company Stena Bulk said Monday it is offering low-carbon biofuel as an option for its customers following trials of the cleaner but costlier fuel on board one of its tankers in April.Customers will have options ranging from 20% to 100% biofuels based on an offsetting program where the biofuel is used within the Stena Bulk fleet, Stena Bulk said. Sovcomflot Profits Up on Stronger Tanker Market

Russia's state-owned tanker carrier Sovcomflot (SCF Group) reported improvements on both the top and bottom line in the third quarter benefiting from a stronger tanker market.The energy shipping company posted a net profit of  $26m as revenue increased in the third quarter.Sergey Frank, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PAO Sovcomflot, said: “We are satisfied with the Group’s performance over the third quarter. AET Grows in Brazil

With the ongoing development of deepwater pre-salt plays and a decreased demand on local content in tankers and other vessels, Brazilian national operator Petrobras and other super-majors have been looking abroad for better rates and reliable operators of shuttle tankers. Claudio Paschoa, Maritime Reporter’s correspondent in Brazil spoke to Peter Liew, Global Director – Mid Size Tankers, Crude Shipping, about AET Tankers’ history and its operations in Brazil.AET (formerly American Eagle Tankers) was founded in Houston in 1994 primarily to conduct lightering operations in the Gulf of Mexico. OSG Extends Charter of AMSC's Nine Tankers

AET Secures DP2 Shuttle Tankers with Petrobras

Petroleum tanker owner and operator AET announced the extension of partnership in the DP2 shuttle tanker sector with Petróleo Brasileiro S.A.(Petrobras), the Brazilian multinational petroleum corporation. "Recently we were awarded a contract to own and operate four specialist DP2 Suezmax Shuttle Tankers on long-term charter by Petrobras. These new vessels will be in addition to the two AET DP2 ships currently on charter in the Brazilian Basin for Petrobras," said a press release from the company. The four 152,000 DWT DP2 shuttle tankers will be built by a Korean shipyard for delivery in 2020 and will be contracted to Petrobras for operations in international and Brazilian waters.

Tanker Investments Merges with Teekay Tankers

Teekay Tankers has agreed to acquire all the remaining issued and outstanding shares of Tanker Investments (TIL), in a share-for-share merger at an exchange ratio of 3.30 Teekay Tankers Class A common shares for each TIL common share. Teekay Tankers currently owns 3.4 million common shares, or 11.3 percent, of TIL. TIL's fleet consists of 10 Suezmax tankers, 6 Aframax tankers and 2 LR2 Product tankers with an average age of 7.3 years. Following the merger, Teekay Tankers' fleet will consist of 62 conventional tankers, including 3 in-chartered conventional tankers (30 Suezmax tankers, 22 Aframax tankers, 9 LR2 Product tankers and one 50 percent-owned VLCC).

Today’s ATB play seemingly has legs for the long haul, as operators build and market needs fluctuate. The refined product trades are always in flux. Similarly, the supply patterns for products (and for chemicals derived from oil refining) are subject to constant change. At the same time, the distribution of refined petroleum products sees great benefit from the efficiency of Articulated Tug Barges (ATBs), which have the flexibility to adjust to dynamic supply programs between refineries and myriad distribution facilities dotting the coastline. It wasn’t always like that.

Maersk Tankers Invests in Quantitative Hedge Fund

Maersk Tankers said on Wednesday it has entered into an equity agreement with U.S. hedge fund CargoMetrics, giving it access to analytical models and algorithms to better manage its tanker operations. Maersk Tankers, a unit of shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk , has invested a "significant" but undisclosed amount in the Boston-based hedge fund, which will give the firm exclusive right to its analytical models, algorithms and capabilities. CargoMetrics links satellite signals, historical shipping data and proprietary analytics for trading purposes in its systematic investment platform. "Data about the ninety-percent of global trade that moves by sea is a powerful trading edge," said Scott Borgerson, Chief Executive of CargoMetrics in a statement.

MOL Unveils Restructuring

Japanese shipping major Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) plans to undertake a number of changes as part of an organizational restructuring, effective April 1, 2018. MOL said it will establish a liner business management division to “fulfil its management role as one of the major investors in Ocean Network Express (ONE), into which the liner division is being integrated”. The Japanese giant will split tanker operations and a chief financial officer (CFO) appointed for the first time. It will divide the tanker division into tanker division (A) and tanker division (B) to create a more customer-focused approach and establish a ferry business division.
