Kongsberg Maritime to Deliver Tech & Equipment for Cadeler's Second WTFIV

London Fire Brigade Adds Two New Fireboats

The London Fire Brigade has added a pair of new fireboats on the Thames as part of a £40 million investment made by City Hall to expand the Brigade’s fleet of equipment and vehicles.The new 16.2-meter-long boats, Tanner and Errington, are named after Auxiliary Fireman Harry Errington and Auxiliary Firewoman Gillian Tanner, who in the Second World War were both awarded medals for bravery. The call signs for the boats are H23A and H23B, a reference to Adam Mere and Billy Faust, two London firefighters who died fighting a fire in 2004.Built by Holyhead Marine…

Douala Port Authority Orders IHC Dredger

Cameroon’s Port Authority of Douala (PAD) has acquired high-tech equipment from Royal IHC to support its dredging activities, an order that builds on the excellent partnership between both organizations.As part of measures to autonomously manage its dredging activities, the Management of the PAD acquired an IHC Beaver 50 cutter suction dredger and a Delta Multi Craft (DMC) workboat, which were both delivered in 2019. This first order will soon be completed by an IHC Easydredge trailing suction hopper dredger with a 3,000-cubic-meter hopper capacity.

WE Tech to Equip Ektank Vessels

WE Tech Solutions said it has received an order to deliver its permanent magnet shaft generator solution to two new 18,600 dwt chemical tankers with an option for another two. The tankers are built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Chengxi Shipyard for the Swedish ship owner Ektank AB. WE Tech’s equipment delivery to Hudong Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd. will commence in October 2017. WE Tech’s solution is based on variable frequency drive technology (WE Drive) and the direct drive Permanent Magnet Shaft Generator. The solution allows the main engine to run at variable speed while the electrical network is generated by the Shaft Generator. Therefore, there is no need to run the auxiliary engines or generators when sailing.

DEME Orders World’s Largest Cutter Suction Dredger

Royal IHC said it has been awarded a contract for the design, construction and delivery of a 164m-long, 44,180kW self-propelled cutter suction dredger (CSD) for DEME in Belgium. The vessel, Spartacus, will be built in the Netherlands for summer 2019 delivery. Spartacus will be the world’s first CSD powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), following on the order for the first LNG-powered trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHDs) Minerva and Scheldt River, and the LNG-ready Bonny River, that are currently under construction at IHC’s shipyards.

Italian Boosts to Flinders Shipbuilding Ambitions

Building on its partnership with the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri announced earlier this month, South Australia’s Flinders University has signed a supporting agreement with The University of Genoa to cooperate in research and development and training with focus on maritime, naval architecture and shipbuilding. Long Beach, LA to Track Maersk Line’s Emissions

Arctic Rescue Vessels Named in Wismar

After a construction period of around 17 months, two identically designed icebreaking rescue and salvage vessels have been named Beringov Proliv and Murman during a ceremony at Nordic Yards in Wismar. In addition to representatives of the customer Rosmorrechflot, other participants in the naming ceremony included Russia's Deputy Transport Minister Viktor Olerskiy. During the naming ceremony, Dr. Vitaly Yusufov, Chairman of the Management Board of Nordic Yards, stated, "Today we are naming two of the world's most modern and specialized rescue vessels.

ICBC Financial Leasing Purchase 2 CIMC Raffles Drilling Rigs

ICBC Financial Leasing Company Limited signed a leasing project with Schahin of two ultra-deepwater drilling rigs during China-Brazil Business Council-Annual Meeting 2014 on 17th July 2014. The contract values $1.08bn and eventually serves for Petrobras. CIMC Raffles played the role of EPC in the two semisubmersible drilling rigs building and delivered them in November 2010 and April 2011, which performed in a good condition in Brazil. The cooperation project signed by ICBC Financial Leasing Company and Schahin Group marks China and Brazil has set a new milestone in the fields of energy and offshore financing. Meanwhile, it is the first time that a Chinese financial leasing company participates in the Brazil offshore market.

Historic Great Lakes Shipwreck Possibly Discovered

Steven Libert, president of the Great Lakes Exploration Group, announced he has located what is believed to be the remains of Le Griffon, the first European ship to have sailed the upper Great Lakes. The 45-ton barque carrying seven cannons was built by the legendary French explorer Rene-Robert Cavalier, Sieur de La Salle who was attempting to establish a Northwest Passage through Canada. La Salle wanted to provide a faster way to connect France with its trading partners in the Far East and Le Griffon was to be a vital link in the route between Niagra and Illinois.

LUSCHI Acquires Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger

LUSCHI announced an acquisition of a 1,330 m³ Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger - TSHD to its fleet. The equipment named Recreio do Bandeirantes will become LUSCHI X after formalizing purchase between LUSCHI and BIC Bank, this Wednesday, June 4. The vessel has 77.5 m length, 13 m width and dredging depth up to 22 m. Moreover, it is equipped with waterjet in the cutter head, waterjet at the doors of cisterns, barge loading system and "bow thruster", a type of propellant that provides greater maneuverability for vessels.

A huge building containing equipment for dealing with the whole cycle of radioactive waste management is taking shape on the coast of the Barents Sea. Roofing and façade are finished now, and remaining inner engineering systems are being installed, reports the 'Barents Observer'. The complex in the Saida Bay will deal with all kinds of radioactive scrap from the huge reactor compartments of decommissioned nuclear submarines to contaminated metal parts from both the navy and Russia’s fleet of nuclear powered icebreakers.

DNV KEMA’s Open Multiphase Flow Lab

Energy consulting, testing and certification company DNV KEMA will open a new Multiphase Flow Laboratory (MPFL) in Groningen, the Netherlands. The facility will allow equipment manufactures and oil and gas companies to test, validate and calibrate multiphase technologies – e.g. separators and flow meters – for the production of oil and gas and the measurement and trading of gas. As the MPFL is operating in a unique true-to-life environment, the facility will help increasing the accuracy of future multiphase flow meters, as well as the efficiency of future multiphase separators.

Raymarine Lends Support to Marine Engineering Apprentices

Apprentice George Woolliss, 18, found himself hovering above the rooftops of Bournemouth & Poole College last week. George, from the village of St Leonard’s near Ringwood, was given a bird’s-eye view of the latest high-tech equipment loaned to the college on a long-term basis by Raymarine, one of the region’s leading marine electronics company based in Fareham. The Raymarine equipment, fixed to the roof of the new Marine Engineering Centre which opened last year, is the latest piece of kit gifted by forward-looking companies to help apprentices improve the depth of their training. Raymarine has supplied its latest navigation and meteorological system which is directly linked to a boat helm simulator inside the Centre to train young engineers in the latest technology.

NOAA Prepares Hurricane 'Sandy' Maritime Response

Hurricane-force winds are expected along portions of the coast between Chincoteague Virginia and Chatham Massachusetts. As Hurricane 'Sandy' heads north along the Atlantic coast, NOAA’s Office of Coast Survey is deep into preparations for maritime rapid response.
