Netsco Appoints Flores

Jan M. Flores

Netsco announces  Jan M. Flores, as Sr. Director of Business Development. Flores comes to Netsco from OSG (Overseas Shipholding Group) where he headed the FSO Group and was responsible for Business Development in the Offshore market. Prior to his assignment with the FSO Group, Flories  was the OSG Technical Project Manager overseeing the development of the MT Overseas Cascade and the MT Overseas Chinook. Flores has also worked for Crowley Maritime Corporation as Manager of New builds in their Technical Services Group.

Contractors, B&W, Comment on US Government Shutdown Effect

"B&W is closely monitoring the government shutdown and the effect it could have on our business results and operations. We do not expect any delays or impacts to the Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Operations Group for the foreseeable future. Babcock & Wilcox Technical Services Group (B&W TSG) continues to follow direction from the U.S. Department of Energy at project sites where B&W TSG has a presence. Many of the sites at which we have management and operating contracts or environmental management contracts have seen activities curtailed and are preparing for furloughs, which will be occurring over the next two weeks if the government shutdown is not ended. If the shutdown continues into November, it could begin to have a modest adverse impact on B&W TSG segment operating income.

DRS Contracted to Continue USCG Maintenance

DRS Technologies, Inc. announced it has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) to continue its maintenance, repair and overhaul work at the U.S. Coast Guard Aviation Logistics Center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Under the contract, DRS’s Technical Services group will continue to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services to Coast Guard C-130 aircraft for one year with yearly options to extend up to an additional four years. If all of the options are exercised by the Coast Guard, the contract could be worth up to $200 million. For more than three years, DRS’s top-of-the-line MRO facility in Elizabeth City, North Carolina has been servicing the Coast Guard’s C-130 fleet and ensuring the aircraft are kept mission-ready.

Tidewater CEO Taylor to Retire

Tidewater Inc. (NYSE:TDW) announced today that Dean Taylor, its President and CEO since March 2002, will retire as an executive officer of the company effective May 31, 2012, after a 34-year career with Tidewater. Mr. Taylor will remain on the Board of Directors, and serve as Tidewater’s non-executive Chairman of the Board. Jeffrey M. Platt will become Tidewater’s new President and CEO effective June 1, 2012. Platt has been Tidewater’s COO, overseeing Tidewater’s domestic and international marine operations, since July 2006.

Crowley, Receives 10th ATB in Mississippi

On the wake of the christening and launching of its newest heavy-lift-series deck barge in Portland, Ore., Crowley took delivery of its newest Articulated Tug Barge (ATB) - the tug Commitment and barge 650-6 in Pascagoula, Miss, on April 2. Titan - Schwall VP, Reed General Manager

Titan Salvage, Crowley Maritime Corporation's salvage and wreck removal company, announced that Dan Schwall has been promoted to vice president and Phil Reed has been promoted to general manager, salvage and engineering. Crowley Acquires Jensen Maritime

Crowley Maritime acquired Seattle-based Jensen Maritime Consultants, a naval architecture and marine engineering firm to strengthen its technical capability. Jensen, which has 19 employees, will remain an independent company with their offices in Seattle, and will continue to serve their current clientele while supporting Crowley. "Crowley's investment in Jensen Maritime provides our technical services group with a key marine engineering and naval architecture resource to supplement our existing capabilities and to provide an even better, more comprehensive suite of services to customers," said Tom Crowley, chairman, president and CEO.

Crowley Orders Heavy Lift 455 Series Deck Barges

Crowley Maritime Corporation's technical services group has awarded a construction contract to Gunderson Marine of Portland, Oregon to build two additional Heavy Lift Series 400 x 105-ft. deck barges. Once complete, these barges will handle project work for the offshore energy industry in the Gulf of Mexico and elsewhere and will expand Crowley's fleet of this type barge to five. Gunderson is the same company that built the first three barges in the series - the Marty J, 455-2 and 455-3 - all of which were delivered last year.

Siemens Fits Out Italian Submarines

The Marine Engineering Subdivision of Siemens Industrial Projects and Technical Services Group (ATD) is fitting out two submarines for the Italian Navy with propulsion and control systems worth $60 million. About half of the order will go to Siemens Power Generation Group (KWU), which will be supplying the fuel cells for the propulsion system. Currently under construction at Italy's Fincantieri shipyard to drawings supplied by German shipyards Howaldtswerke Deutsche Werft AG and Thyssen Nordseewerke GmbH. Siemens brings experience in the fitting out of more than 120 submarines to this project, with the Italian Navy also granting the company an option for the fitting out of two more submarines.
