ABB, the leading power and automation technology company, is proud to accompany Solar Impulse and its crew on the plane’s flight around the world powered only by energy from the sun. Solar Impulse, based in Switzerland, announced today it will begin its historic flight between late February and early March in Abu Dhabi. In 2014, ABB and Solar Impulse formed an innovation and technology alliance to advance a shared vision of reducing resource consumption and increasing the use of renewable energy. “Solar Impulse will inspire a new generation to embrace innovation and technology to solve the planet’s biggest challenges,” said ABB Chief Executive Officer Ulrich Spiesshofer. Three ABB engineers have joined the Solar Impulse team where they are contributing expertise and passion.

The American Salvage Association (ASA), supported by the Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI), International Salvage Union (ISU), Marine Technology Society (MTS), Maritime Law Association of the United States (MLA), North American Marine Environmental Protection Association (NAMEPA), Spill Control Association of America (SCAA), Maritime Technology Alliance (MTA), and the World Ocean Council (WOC), will sponsor a conference, “Wrecks of the  World: Hidden Risks of the Deep (WOW)” on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) in the Washington, DC area (Linthicum Heights, MD) USA.

ASNE Day 2009 takes place April 8-9, at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, MD. Conoco and Aker Kvaerner, part of Kvaerner, the international oil services, engineering and construction, pulp and paper and shipbuilding group, announced the establishment of a new company, DeepWater Composites AS, that will manufacture and sell composite products for use in the deepwater exploration and field development segments of the oil and gas industry. Conoco and Aker Kvaerner will each hold 50-percent interest in Deepwater Composites AS. Conoco and Aker Kvaerner have co-operated under a technology alliance since 1995 to develop, test and qualify two carbon fiber composite products that provide a technological and economic breakthrough to facilitate the exploitation of oil reserves in deep water.

With interests in Nigeria, Venezuela and Brazil, Statoil wishes to play a greater role around the Atlantic margins in supplying LNG to the burgeoning USA market, while Aker Kværner and Linde foresee a promising future as suppliers of technical solutions and engineering studies. Annual growth of 5-10 per cent is expected for new LNG plant construction. This new Alliance is a natural successor to the successful Statoil - Linde LNG Technology Alliance, which has led to the development and qualification of the next generation of spiral-wound heat exchangers (SWHEs) and the Mixed Fluid Cascade liquefaction process (MFC).
