Hempel: New Coatings for Offshore Structures

Hempel has launched two new advanced coatings specifically developed to protect the vulnerable “splash zone” areas of offshore structures. DP World Australia completes next phase of TOS standardization & centralization with Navis N4 Go-Live in Melbourne, following on from successful implementations at Port of Botany & Fremantle, with a fourth scheduled for Brisbane in Q1 2014. Topside modifications at Åsgard

Statoil awarded Aker Solutions an engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract for subsea compression topside modifications on the Åsgard field. The Åsgard licence has decided on a concept involving gas compressors installed on the seabed, so-called subsea gas compression. The purpose of the modification is to supply electricity to the Åsgard subsea compressor units, which will be installed in 2013. Åsgard is the first installation worldwide to employ subsea gas processing involving gas compression and this represents an important technological step change in the development of fields in deep and demanding waters and creates exciting opportunities for the industry.

BV Issues Rules for Offshore Floating Gas Units

Bureau Veritas has issued Rules for the classification of Offshore Floating Gas Units. The Rules cover structure design principles, hydrodynamic analysis, design loads, hull girder strength, hull scantlings, local structural improvements, the cargo containment system, stability and subdivision, arrangements, access, ventilation and venting of spaces in the cargo area, equipment and safety particulars, topsides systems, transfer systems, piping systems, use of cargo as fuel, electrical installations and swivels and risers. Offshore Ship Designers Strategy

Design teams in IJmuiden, Montrose, Escrick, Bideford and Shanghai will now all operate under the IJmuiden-based Offshore Ship Designers (OSD) name and will work more closely together. The office in Bideford is new and will focus on cargo ships, patrol vessels, dredgers and mega yachts. Michiel Wijsmuller, managing director of OSD, said, "We are not just rebranding, we have integrated a loose group into a strong company. WorldWise Marine and IMT are now an integrated design company with solid engineering capacity but above all, a strong independent presence in all the key markets.
