Austal Limited's Philippines shipyard delivered a 50-mcatamaran to Taiwanese Brave Line in what is the company’s first commercial contract in the East Asian country.The catamaran is the first of two 550 passenger Austal-designed vessels being constructed at the company’s Philippines shipyard in Balamban, Cebu. The contract was awarded to Austal by Taiwan’s Brave Line in September 2017. A world class Center of Excellence in Maritime and Ship Building (CEMS) is being set up by Ministry of Shipping in collaboration with  Siemens and Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) under the Ministry’s flagship Sagarmala Program. CEMS will have  campuses at Vishakhapatnam and Mumbai, and will provide industry-relevant skill development, equip students with employable engineering and technical skills in the port and maritime sector and contribute to the Government of India’s ambitious Sagarmala programme. Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation had announced this at an event in Cochin last week.

DNV GL has initiated a joint industry project for the design of a state-of-the-art next generation LPG carrier. LPGreen aims is to develop a more energy efficient, environmentally friendly, and safer vessel for the transportation of LPG products, taking into account existing and future trading patterns and ensuring the overall competitiveness of the concept. The project will incorporate the latest advances in hull form optimisation, cargo handling systems, engine technology and fuelling options. Transas has launched its newly established Transas Academy, part of the company's THESIS, the Transas Harmonized Eco System of Integrated Solutions, during the Simulation User Conference (SimUC) which took place in Singapore on January 26-28. According to Transas, the main purpose of the Transas Academy is to connect maritime stakeholders and provide them with integrated solutions and high quality content, helping them to bridge the gap between STCW and the required competency level. It facilitates all aspects of simulation and training by bringing technology, expertise and content together.

Project Resolve is the conversion of the container vessel M.V. Asterix to an Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment (AOR) ship to support the Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) interim supply ship capability requirements. Providing support to Project Resolve will be Lloyd’s Register’s (LR) naval technology expertise and complex conversion experience. LR will support the conversion process from the development of a safety certification regime with the Flag Administration and approval of design plans through to on-site supervision at Davie and commissioning of the new AOR ship.

The new RH Marine Group, formerly known as Imtech Marine was introduced at the Europort exhibition in Rotterdam today. Following the recent acquisition by Parcom Capital and Pon Holdings, Imtech Marine will now be known as RH Marine Group, built on the roots of founding companies Radio Holland and van Rietschoten & Houwens. The two ‘pillars’ for service and newbuild activities within Imtech Marine are also involved in the new naming structure. Global NavCom, Connectivity, On Board ICT service and maintenance brand Radio Holland will keep its name but will have a new logo.

CTruk Boats formally handed over the first new craft built at its River Colne production facility in Colchester when the latest MPC22 offshore wind farm service vessel (WFSV) was officially named by owner CWind at the Seawork show in Southampton. Utilizing the CTruk flexible pod system that allows the vessel’s payload to be reconfigured in a matter of hours, the MPC22 is based on a proven workboat design. Kvaerner says it has established a frame agreement with Statoil for delivery of steel jacket substructures to Statoil-operated fields. Based on this frame agreement, Statoil has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) for Kvaerner to deliver two of the planned steel jackets to the Johan Svedrup development off the West Coast of Norway. Subject to all necessary approvals for the project to proceed, early estimates of the total value of the two jacket deliveries will be approximately NOK 3 billion. The accommodation jackup rig with Plug & Abandonment (P&A) features will be based on Keppel’s KFELS J Class design which is suited for the harsh environment of the Norwegian North Sea. Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) has signed an engineering services agreement with Workfox B.V, a subsidiary of the Seafox Group (Seafox), to embark on an engineering study of a purpose-built accommodation jackup rig with well intervention and P&A features.

Invizeon Corporation has appointed Kevin Walker as the Chief Operating Officer for two of its subsidiaries: Seafaring Security Services, LLC and Slipstream Resources, LLC. Mr. Walker was previously Vice President and General Manager of ACADEMI, a security, training, and logistics services provider to the U.S. Government, international and domestic military & law enforcement agencies, and numerous commercial customers. While at ACADEMI he successfully led the company’s flagship Training Services business unit. Prior to ACADEMI, Mr. Walker spent more than 15 years in the semiconductor and telecom industries driving operations, manufacturing, R&D, logistics and supply chain. Most notably with Ericsson of Stockholm, Sweden and Standard Microsystems Corporation (SMSC) on Long Island, New York.

Aker Solutions contracted by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) to supply deepwater drilling riser. The 10 000 ft deepwater drilling CLIP riser system will be manufactured and delivered out of Aker Solutions' manufacturing plant in Port Klang, Malaysia. Delivery of the drilling riser system is scheduled for November 2014. The contract value is undisclosed. The delivery is related to the second of two options included in the drilling riser contract announced in July 2011.
