Chrysaor Backs Mocean Subsea
Mocean Energy, global wave energy player, has teamed up with energy major Chrysaor, subsea energy storage experts EC-OG and AUV specialist Modus in a project to look at using renewables for subsea power.The project, funded by the partners together with the Oil and Gas Technology Centre (OGTC), will look to use Mocean Energyâs Blue Star wave energy converter and EC-OGâs HALO subsea energy storage system to power subsea tiebacks or residential AUVs.If industry feedback is positive, the partners will press ahead with a technology field trial using a Mocean Energy prototype in the seas off Orkney later this year.Once proven, these technologies could provide vital backup power in case of umbilical failureâŚ

Trelleborgâs oil & marine hose operation has launched the KLELINE STS oil transfer solution, which is set to upgrade safety and operability standards in ship-to-ship (STS) oil transfer around the world. HMC, JF Moore to Form Joint Venture
Dutch firm HMC and U.S. based JF Moore group announced the establishment of a joint venture under the name JFMooreHMC, enabling both organizations to broaden exploration of technology and innovations in the maritime technology field. Jim Moore II, CEO of The JF Moore Group, said, âOur joint venture will allow The JF Moore Group to create a new strong base in Europe. ZF Marine Opens New North America Commercial Craft Center of Competence
The new facility has dedicated transmission and thruster repair facilities, and larger warehouse and training areas. ZF Marine has a long standing presence in Louisiana, opening their first location in the city of St. Rose in 1996. The ever increasing customer base combined with the addition of the commercial thruster product line in 2009 resulted in the need to create a larger physical presence in the region. A comprehensive search of the region resulted in ZF finding a new home at 677 Time Saver Avenue in Elmwood, Louisiana. ZF Marineâs new facility is three times the size of its previous location. The new facility not only houses dedicated transmission and thruster repair facilities, but also a significantly larger warehouse area.
Martek Named on EU Maritime Drone Contract
Martek Marine (Martek) has been awarded a two-year Remotely Piloted Aircraft Services (RPAS) contract from the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA). The services offered will fulfil part of the worldâs largest ever maritime drone contract. Part of a five-year EMSA strategy of improving coastguard monitoring and surveillance of maritime activity valued at âŹ67 million, the service provision from Martek not only includes the RPAS, commonly known as drones, but also the pilots, long-range antennae, mission control vehicles and ground crew.

With its coastline of 7,800 km, Italy is expediently nestled in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea with the surrounding waters creating a tremendous resource for Italian economy. Businesses linked to the sea, including ocean technology firms, contribute significantly to Italyâs gross domestic product totaling more than $40 billion and representing 2.6% of total GDP. The Italian shipyard industry ranks among the top 20 in the world with ship building and boat-building accounting for 64% of the industry turnover, totaling 6.3 billion Euro in 2012, and Technological Equipment placed at 2.2 billion Euro. Ballast Water Leadership
Admiral Paul Zukunft, the new U.S. Coast Guard Commandant, could fill the BWT leadership void. Global efforts to combat the spread of invasive species in ballast water are hampered by a leadership void so serious that in April the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) discouraged further ratifications of the International Maritime Organizationâs (IMO) invasive species convention. Admiral Paul Zukunft, the new U.S. Coast Guard Commandant, could fill that void and get those efforts onto the right track. The United States has been blessed with strong Coast Guard Commandants.
Caterpillar's Vice President, Randy Krotowski, Quits
Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) announced that Randy Krotowski, vice president with responsibility for the Global Information Services (GIS) Division and the companyâs Chief Information Officer (CIO), has elected to resign from the company to pursue other opportunities. Krotowskiâs departure will be effective today. âRandy has more than 25 years of experience in the information technology field, and we wish him well as he pursues future endeavors,â said Brad Halverson, Caterpillar group president with responsibility for the Corporate Services Division. Caterpillar will immediately begin a global search to find a new GIS vice president and chief information officer.
