Penguin Delivers CTV Pair to Northern Offshore Services

Northern Offshore Services (N-O-S) announced it has taken delivery of two new crew transfer vessels (CTV) from Penguin Shipyard in Singapore.The R-Class sister vessels, Runner and Responder, were officially handed over in 2023 and are now ready for operation in Europe, N-O-S said.The the R-Class was created by N-O-S' in-house R&D department, featuring a "future proofed" automation system, N-O-S Green Technology solutions, efficient and effective hull shape, and a flexible engine configuration designed to only use the power that the current situation requires…

Subsea 7 Acquires EMAS Chiyoda Subsea Assets

Subsea 7 S.A. said it has acquires certain businesses of EMAS Chiyoda Subsea (ECS) under a U.S. bankruptcy code Chapter 11 Plan of Reorganization, confirmed by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas and became effective on June 29, 2017. According to Subsea 7, it will pay less than $100 million in aggregate, including its contribution to the Debtor in Possession credit facility, to acquire the ECS businesses, the Ingleside spoolbase and other assets. “In a challenging business environment our differentiated offering and strong capital discipline has enabled us to pursue this opportunity. This targeted investment enables Subsea 7 to accelerate its strategy to provide a market leading service in the Middle East,” said Subsea 7 CEO, Jean Cahuzac.

Seaspan Appoints Three

Seaspan has named three new Vice Presidents to its Senior Leadership Team, announcing the appointments of Linda Wortman as Vice President, Finance & Accounting; Catherine Chick as Vice President, Business Services & Technology; and Shawn Chylinski as Vice President, Health, Safety, Environment & Quality. As Vice President, Finance & Accounting, Linda is responsible for strategic financial oversight of the marine division and corporate services. She is a key advisor to the CFO and Executive Leadership Team and ensures information and metrics are available to inform value added business decisions. Linda joined Seaspan in 2008 as Controller, Marine and was appointed to the role of Vice President, Finance & Accounting in January 2016.

Comark to Exhibit at Intelligent Ships Symposium

McKean Defense Appoint Fleet Programs Strategy Advisor

Guy Holcombe has been hired to strengthen McKean's Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) business. Mr. Holcombe has had a distinguished career directing operations and business development for organizations focused on maritime support. He most recently served as a Director in Northrop Grumman's Defense Systems Division, managing $280M of business with 1,000 employees. This position was the culmination of a 30-year career that began in 1980 when he joined SYSCON Corporation as the Deputy Program Manager for AEGIS Programs. Mr. Holcombe's responsibilities include developing strategies to increase McKean's presence in NAVSEA Fleet engineering and technology initiatives. He will also be responsible for leading efforts to integrate activities across McKean's diverse Navy customer base.

ShipTech 2012 will be held on February 14-15 at the Rosen Plaza in Orlando, FL. Deadline for Abstracts has been extended to October 28th 2011. ShipTech 2012 is currently accepting abstracts for presentations on technology initiatives that improve U.S. shipbuilding and repair efficiencies and reduce total ownership cost through the use of innovative systems, processes or technologies. ShipTech 2012 is sponsored by the Office of Naval Research – Navy Manufacturing Center and the National Shipbuilding Research Program.

Cal Maritime Leadership Symposium

Trade and transportation organizations with close ties to California’s vital maritime industry will gather in Sacramento May 12-14 for the California Maritime Leadership Symposium. The event is organized by The California Association of Port Authorities (CAPA), California Marine Affairs and Navigation Conference (CMANC), California Marine & Intermodal Transportation System Advisory Council (CALMITSAC), The Harbor Association of Industry and Commerce, the Propeller Club of Los Angeles/Long Beach and the California Maritime Academy. “Our focus will be education and information,” explained David Hull, Port Director of the Humboldt Bay Harbor District and chair of the symposium.

AAPA Announces New Seminar Series

AAPA is finalizing programs and securing industry experts for both the Port Administration Seminar and the Information Technology Seminar. These two important disciplines will be covered thoroughly as independent seminars, coming together for two sessions, one on eCommerce and another on Electronic Policy. These two groups will also come together for continental breakfasts, breaks and lunches. AAPA seminar host, the Mississippi State Port Authority at Gulfport, is planning an Evening Cruise & Reception Aboard "The Gulf Islander" for both groups on Thursday evening, April 5. The program for the Port Administration Seminar has been carefully assembled to cover the latest trends and challenges in port administration.

Planning Consultants Awarded $10.9m Contract

Planning Consultants, Inc., Virginia Beach, Va. is being awarded a $10,994,087 modification under previously awarded contract (N00178-04-C-2004) to exercise an option for engineering expertise in support of Research and Development, Total Ship System Engineering and Combat System Engineering advanced technology initiatives for modernization of current systems on surface ship combatants. This contract combines purchases for the U.S. Navy (97 percent) and the Governments of Japan (1 percent); South Korea (1 percent); and Spain (1 percent) for the Foreign Military Sales Program. Work will be performed in Dahlgren, Va. (90 percent) and Virginia Beach, Va. (10 percent), and is expected to be completed by September 2008. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
