Equinor Awards Long-term Frame Deals to Seismic Players PGS and Shearwater

Offshore seismic survey contractors PGS and Shearwater GeoServices have been awarded framework agreements with Equinor for 4D towed streamer seismic acquisition on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) in what Equinor said was a new way of working with seismic contractors.The agreements have a total estimated value of around NOK 700 million (~USD 82,7 million).“This is a new way of working with seismic suppliers. We are moving away from annual tenders towards a more long-term collaboration model.

Leclanché, Kongsberg Join Forces for Green Ships Push

Nordic marine technology company Kongsberg Maritime has selected Swiss battery maker  Leclanché, one of the world’s leading storage solutions companies, as its battery partner and supplier of customised marine energy storage solutions.The partnership contributes to Kongsberg's new generation of hybrid power solutions, which are set to deliver game-changing efficiencies and reduce the environmental impact of transportation with cutting-edge autonomous and crewed vessel newbuilds.Leclanché’s batteries will be an integral part of Kongsberg’s hybrid solutions. Through the partnership, Leclanché will deliver one of the largest single marine battery system order to date for 9 vessels totalling 45MWh batteries.

Modest Tree to Provide Virtual Reality Training for MAN

MAN Energy Solutions has selected Nova Scotia-based simulation and training software developer, Modest Tree, to develop a virtual reality training solution for the engines onboard the Royal Canadian Navy’s new Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships under construction at Halifax Shipyard.The virtual reality training solution, the first of its kind in the marine sector, will train the men and women of the Royal Canadian Navy to operate and maintain the ship’s engines.Each Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship will be propelled by two MAN Energy Solutions 4.5 megawatt diesel/electric propulsion engines.MAN Energy Solutions is a subcontractor of GE Canada, the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship Integrated Propulsion System Integrator.

Tonon Appointed VP, R&D in Wärtsilä

Paolo Tonon, MSc (Eng), 42, has been appointed Vice President, R&D of Wärtsilä Industrial Operations as of 1 June 2012. Mr Tonon will be responsible for the Research and Development of Wärtsilä products. Tonon, who joined Wärtsilä in 1998, has successfully held several leading strategic, operational and technology positions. Prior to this current appointment he has, since 2009, been Vice President, Product Centre Automation, based in Norway, with responsibility for overall development and production of the Wärtsilä electrical & automation portfolio.
