Vigor Completes USS McCampbell Modification

Vigor reports it has completed the modernization of USS McCampbell (DDG 85) at Swan Island, sending the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer on to its new homeport at Naval Station Everett, Wash. The 18-month, more than $155 million project was the largest ever completed by Vigor’s Ship Repair team, and the largest of its kind at Swan Island in nearly 30 years, the company said.“Our skilled workers at Swan Island were honored to support the U.S. Navy and get USS McCampbell back into service,” said Adam Beck, Vigor Executive Vice President of Ship Repair.

Simwave Maritime Center of Excellence Opens

Simwave B.V. and Kongsberg Digital have completed the Site Acceptance Test (SAT) of one of the largest, most advanced maritime simulation suites ever delivered. The SAT, which took place January 19, means that the new Simwave Maritime Center of Excellence in Barendrecht, Rotterdam is now fully operational. As the sole simulation technology partner in the development of the unique Simwave facility, Kongsberg Digital delivered the full scope of work in accordance with the contract awarded in April 2017, which represented one of its most extensive deliveries to date.

Sea IT, Veritas Tankers Ink Long-term Software Deal

Sea IT has entered a long term ICT agreement with Veritas Tankers. The agreement comprises installation of BlueCORE Generation 4, an ICT platform specifically developed for the marine industry, and BlueCONNECT, a virtualized software which acts as mail server and carrier controller. Veritas Tankers will upgrade and have the installations made on all its vessels: Astina, Astral and Astoria. Sea IT will support Veritas Tankers during a three-year period though the Fixed BlueCORE ICT agreement.

IMRF, McMurdo Partner on SAR Initiatives

The IMRF, the charity supporting maritime SAR service globally, and McMurdo, a company in search and rescue and maritime domain awareness solutions, announced a partnership aiming at several key search and rescue (SAR) initiatives to be launched at next week’s World Maritime Rescue Congress in Bremerhaven, Germany. Working together the IMRF and McMurdo will target some of the key challenges facing maritime SAR globally including rescue team training, the safety of artisanal fishermen and the emerging requirements of SAR services managing the unsafe mixed migration by sea.

Three New Lumitec Products to Debut at IBEX

Lumitec, a designer and manufacturer of marine LED lighting solutions, is set to premier three new products at IBEX September 17-19 at booth 2155. Lumitec will also reveal technology updates for some of their most popular lights. Leading the launch is Lumitec’s new Cayman line of spreader/floodlights with a measured output of up to 2,400 lumens, (integrating sphere measurement). The Cayman family offers: dual-color output, Monolithic solid metal construction, dimming, and DeckSweep optical technology.

Sigma Offshore Exhibiting at FPSO Event in Singapore

Sigma Offshore, the international FPSO moorings and marine engineering services business, will be exhibiting at Asia’s 3rd Annual FPSO Summit in Singapore. The event at the Raffles Convention Centre on April 24 and 25 is part of Singapore Maritime Week. As well as exhibiting, Aberdeen-headquartered Sigma Offshore is one of the sponsors of the event for industry leaders and decision makers. The conference features speakers, FPSO and field owner case studies, design and technology updates and networking opportunities.

Lockheed Martin $24M Anti Sub Systems Contract

Advanced acoustic processing and tracking capabilities provided by Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) will enhance underwater surveillance and help increase situational awareness for the U.S. Navy fleet. Lockheed Martin has been awarded a follow-on contract from the Navy's Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command to provide technology updates and new concepts to detect and track submarines. This contract extension is valued at $24m. The team will engineer enhancements to the Navy's common Integrated Undersea Sensor System hardware and software baseline, or Integrated Common Processor (ICP) system, which assists operators in localizing and tracking surface and subsurface maritime contacts.
