Telaurus Appoints Davison As Product Manager

Telaurus Communications, a Globecomm Maritime company, has appointed Geoff Davison as Product Manager – Value Added Services. Geoff joins Telaurus with 20 years’ experience in electronics, telecommunications and information technology in the marine, military and avionics markets. For the last 10 years Geoff has held a senior position with AND Group, leading its technical support team for the last five years. His main role will be to develop new sales worldwide through promotion of Telaurus Value Added Services both internally and externally.

Iridium, Telaurus Support Filming Expedition

Iridium Satellite LLC (Iridium) and Telaurus Communications LLC (Telaurus) have teamed to provide satellite communication equipment and services for a six-month Northwest Passage Filming voyage. The voyage got underway from Rhode Island on June 13, 2009 and will end in Seattle on Oct. 31, 2009. The voyage’s vessel, the Bagan, is equipped with an Iridium OpenPort high-speed maritime communications terminal and Telaurus Se@Comm software. Iridium OpenPort enables the Bagan to transmit voice and data communications in the Arctic Region where no other service is available, including services based on geostationary satellites. So, the captain and crew of the Bagan are able to speak on the phone at the same time, even during data transmission.

This Broadband solution will allow captains and crews to access the internet and all the se@COMM features over any IP based satellite terminal while continuing with, simplicity of use, near real-time communications and vessel side live display of traffic and cost while using the internet. Using similar filters as their current se@COMM email accounts, the Telaurus Broadband solution allows Captains and Office Staff to manage all control features on the vessel or via the Telaurus web based Ship Management Tool (SMT) and monitor shipboard usage.

Telaurus Wins Tidewater Contract

Telaurus Communications LLC of Cedar Knolls, N.J., has been awarded a two-year contract to provide Tidewater Inc. with Telaurus Communications’ se@COMM family of communications solutions software, voice and data services for Tidewater’s world-wide fleet of offshore oilfield supply vessels. “Tidewater was approached by virtually all Iridium Tier 1 Providers but chose Telaurus based on pricing and the software assists the se@COMM products enable. After exhaustive testing with competing product offerings, Telaurus pricing and software performance proved to be the winning combination for Tidewater”, said Bo Wiggins, Director of Information Technology at Tidewater Inc.

Telaurus Offers Mariners Communications Solutions

Telaurus Communications LLC becomes one in a long list of companies offering "next-generation" communication solutions to the marine industry. The company, based in Cedar Knolls, NJ, brings to the market the se@COMM application family of communications software and the Telaurus Global Network. Telaurus claims to offer a "thinking" network that combines the best of multiple communication paths, including the Inmarsat system, into one single maritime network that is transparent to the user. Communication is Common Ground at CITIS

At the Communications & IT in Shipping (CITIS) conference at Inmarsat’s Headquarters in London, Telaurus Communications emphasized the importance of communication in the recently passed ISPS Code to a group of delegates largely unaware of its ramifications. A survey of the group showed that 78 percent of those attending knew little of the implications of the legislation. With the compliance date just 16 months away the conference was left in no doubt regarding the urgency of the issues. The Telaurus presentation identified five aspects of the legislation where communication was vital to its implementation and effectiveness. Those areas were Crew Calling, Security Planning, Training, AIS & other surveillance technologies and Crisis and Emergency Response.

Cohen Appointed as European Sales Manager for Telaurus

Telaurus Communications LLC of Cedar Knolls New Jersey has announced the appointment of Faith Cohen as European Sales Manager. Cohen brings to the newly created position a wealth of experience in maritime communications having spent the last 11 years with maritime service provider TEAMtalk Satellite, formerly known as IMC. She carries with her a broad range of skills having arrived at IMC as the company began its pioneering move to provide news services to cruise market. Cohen has a degree in Business Studies from John Moores University, Liverpool and multi-lingual proficiency in French, Italian, Russian and Hebrew. Based in Liverpool, she will focus on delivering Telaurus’ new, innovative and low-cost communications solutions to maritime communities across Europe.
