Furuno Earns LR AIP for HermAce

ESA to Partner with One Sea Alliance

ABB Wins $85 mln Qatar Order

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won an order worth around $85 million to provide turnkey substations to help integrate electricity from a new independent water and power plant (IWPP) into the country’s grid. The IWPP will utilize Qatar’s natural gas resources to produce 2,520 megawatts (MW) of power and desalination capacity of around 600 million liters of water daily, helping supply drinking water and power to one of the economic zones that Qatar has made a centerpiece of its plans to modernize and diversify its economy. Qatar, on a peninsula east of Saudi Arabia, is building ambitious infrastructure including rail, energy and water desalination facilities.

ABB Wins US$60-Million Statoil Offshore Contract

Power and automation technology group, ABB, informs it has won three orders worth $60 million for internal and external telecommunication systems for three Statoil projects on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The three contracts have been signed with leading shipyards in South Korea. ABB will be a system integrator of telecommunications on the offshore installations built for the Aasta Hansteen and Gina Krog fields in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea and for the Mariner field in the British sector.

Unmanned Ships Now a Reality

Drones do it and spacecraft have too, for many years. Recently, also, automobile makers and small boat makers have introduced their first autonomous vehicles on the streets, and waterways. Unmanned vessels on the ocean is no longer a dream – it is a reality. And according to those in the know, the reality will really start to come to fruition in the coming decaded. The MUNIN project (Maritime Unmanned Navigation through Intelligence in Networks) is investigating potential concepts for a fully or partially unmanned merchant vessel. The case ship is a dry bulk carrier of handymax size, operating on routes between Europe and South America in the beginning.

Harris CapRock Wins Offshore Angola Communications Contract

Provider of managed communication solutions for remote and harsh environments, Harris CapRock Communications has signed a multi-year contract with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd (DSME) to provide an integrated telecommunications solution supporting the Mafumeira Sul project off the coast of  Angola. Harris CapRock says it will provide equipment and design, integrate and test all telecommunication systems before deployment; install cable at multiple construction sites around the globe; and provide commissioning support off the coast of Angola.

Shell Norway Award Subsea Service Contract to ABB

ABB signs a $260 million service contract with A/S Norske Shell for operations at the Draugen and Ormen Lange oil & gas fields. The contract is for a period of 9 years and requires ABB to provide integrated service and support solutions for the Draugen offshore oil platform and the nearby Ormen Lange onshore gas processing plant on the west coast of Norway. The agreement includes the option of two consecutive two year contracts and covers both the oil and gas fields, as well as future expansions, tie-ins and upgrades. ABB has delivered significant annual savings over five successive years since it was awarded the first service contract by A/S Norske Shell in 2007. The contract scope includes the system’s integration across the electric, instrument, control and telecommunication systems.
