More than 100 USCG Vessels Install KVH mini-VSAT

A fast-response cutter of the U.S. Coast Guard is one of several classes of cutters with KVH’s mini-VSAT Broadband systems onboard as the connectivity solution.

The ongoing maritime VSAT installations are part of KVH’s 10-year contract with the U.S. KVH Industries, Inc., said it has surpassed the 100-vessel mark in its 10-year contract to supply the next-generation satellite communications solution for the U.S. Coast Guard’s fleet of small cutters. To date, KVH’s TracPhone V7  systems have been deployed on 105 USCG vessels across eight different classes of cutters, and KVH’s mini-VSAT Broadband service has provided 29.2 terabytes of data and more than 835,000 Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) minutes.

USCG Launches $1.1 Million Virtual Private Networks

The USCG is deploying Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) based on 3Com's wide area network (WAN) systems. Using VPN connections, the agency will be able to quickly transmit mission-critical and administrative information from its land-based facilities to ships at any port where USCG vessels dock. Deployed in June on cutter Dependable, the 3Com VPN solutions will soon be extended to all of the USCG's 250+ ships. The $1.1 million investment in VPNs is based on 3Com's SuperStack II NetBuilder SI routers and follows the implementation of the Standard Workstation III Local Area Network (LAN) Cabling Project in 1998, when the agency rolled out 3Com Fast Ethernet networks to its entire fleet and many land-based facilities.

USCG Uses 3Com Technology To Launch Virtual Private Networks

The U.S. Coast Guard is deploying Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) based on 3Com's wide area network (WAN) systems). 3Com, which secures, high speed communications between shore facilities and vessels docked at port facilities around the world, uses VPN connections. These connections allow the agency to quickly transmit mission-critical and pertinent administrative information from its land-based location to ships at any port where Coast Guard vessel dock. The process, which was first utilized in June on the cutter Dependable, will soon be branched out to all of the Coast Guard's 250-plus vessels. Based on 3Com's SuperStack II NetBuilder SI routers…
