ABB Wins US$60-Million Statoil Offshore Contract

Power and automation technology group, ABB, informs it has won three orders worth $60 million for internal and external telecommunication systems for three Statoil projects on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The three contracts have been signed with leading shipyards in South Korea. ABB will be a system integrator of telecommunications on the offshore installations built for the Aasta Hansteen and Gina Krog fields in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea and for the Mariner field in the British sector.

Chinese Shipyards and Siemens Offer Solutions

Offshore Production more and more important for Oil and Gas Supply Deep water production from the offshore sector will grow considerably in China and worldwide in order to further secure own supplies. Siemens has developed solutions to improve the reliability of and production time for offshore drilling and production platforms. Siemens is teaming up with Chinese shipyards to build up a reputation as key player in the international offshore market which is currently dominated by countries like Korea and Singapore. Offshore market moves from shallow water jackets to deepwater floaters. The challenges in China lies in the exploration and development of new oil and gas deposits in areas that are more difficult to access, such as in the South China Sea.

H.I.G. Capital Completes Acquisition of PetroCom

PetroCom LLC announced that an affiliate of H.I.G. Capital, a Miami-based private investment firm, has completed the previously announced acquisition of PetroCom. Headquartered in New Orleans, PetroCom is a leading cellular carrier in the Gulf of Mexico and a full-service telecommunications solutions provider for the offshore industry. Last year H.I.G., through its Bayside Capital affiliate, acquired Sola Communications, a leader in the delivery of telecommunications related services for the offshore oil and gas and emergency services markets. In connection with its acquisition of PetroCom, H.I.G. also obtained regulatory approval to combine the PetroCom and Sola businesses. PetroCom is the fifth Gulf area company in which H.I.G. has invested in the past few years.
