INTELLIAN v60Ka, v100Ka Approved for THOR 7

Intellian, the leading provider of stabilized marine satellite antenna systems, has partnered with Telenor Satellite Broadcasting (TSBc) to deliver next generation high-speed maritime connectivity via Intellian’s industry leading 60cm and 1M VSAT platforms. Intelligently designed, durable and robust, the Intellian v-Series antennas benefit from all the innovative features that have helped Intellian become the market leader within the VSAT sector. The v-Series products have been designed from the ground up, with ease of installation and use as the defining factors providing a streamlined and proven solution to accessing the THOR-7 high throughput Ka-band satellite. Both the v60Ka and v100Ka include Intellian’s Aptus Remote Control Software with built-in spectrum analyzer.

Telenor Selects iDirect as Ground Infrastructure Platform

Telenor Satellite Broadcasting (TSBc), a European satellite operator, and iDirect, a company in satellite based IP communications, jointly announced that TSBc has chosen iDirect’s new Velocity product line as the ground infrastructure solution for its new THOR 7 high throughput satellite (HTS). Using iDirect technology, TSBc will deliver a Ka-band HTS payload of up to nine Gbps of throughput across 25 spot beams, providing capacity over the North Sea, Norwegian Sea, Mediterranean, Baltic Sea as well as the Middle East. TSBc chose the iDirect platform for several reasons. The platform will enable automatic, seamless spot-beam handover across all beams on the THOR 7 satellite, ensuring continuous mobile connectivity.

Harris CapRock Contracts 1°West Capacity

Telenor Satellite Broadcasting (TSBc) has  announced  the signing and renewal of multiple agreements with Harris CapRock, a provider of communications to remote and harsh environments, for the provision of satellite capacity services from its 1°West orbital location. Utlizing TSBc’s THOR 10-02 satellite, Harris CapRock provides capacity to serve a number of its strategic energy and maritime clients, offering high-powered coverage throughout Europe. “Over the past two years, TSBc has been working closely with Harris CapRock to deliver satellite capacity, for services to some of its most important customers,” said Morten Tengs, Vice President and CEO of TSBc.

Morten Tengs - New CEO at TSBc

Morten Tengs (51) has been appointed as the new CEO at Telenor Satellite Broadcasting (TSBc). Mr. Tengs comes from the position as Senior Vice President at Telenor Group’s regional office for Asia, in Bangkok. He succeeds Cato Halsaa, who is to retire this summer. “Morten Tengs will be starting in his new role this summer. His broad experience and competence from executive positions in several Telenor companies, will be an important contribution to further development of Telenor Satellite Broadcasting,” says Telenor Broadcast SVP & CEO Patrik Hofbauer, who is also chairman for TSBc. “I am impressed that TSBc has taken such an important position in the market, whilst at the same time renewing their fleet of satellites.

Marlink Renews Contract with Telenor

Marlink renews and increases satellite contract with Telenor Satellite Broadcasting; More flexibility provides growing value for Marlink customers. Marlink, a maritime VSAT service provider recently acquired by Astrium, announced an agreement with Telenor Satellite Broadcasting (TSBc) , a satellite provider of broadcast and data services throughout Europe and the Middle East, to renew and increase Marlink’s capacity  for the next three years. Utilising TSBc’s IS 10-02 high powered satellite capacity , located at  the prime orbital location , 1°West, Marlink is able to meet the future requirements of its many maritime customers  in the busy oceanic areas of the Nordic, European and Middle Eastern regions.

Telenor to be Acquired by Apax

Telenor entered into a definitive agreement with Apax Partners France for the sale of Telenor Satellite Services (TSS) to funds managed by Apax Partners for a cash consideration of $400m. Since 2002 Telenor has defined Telenor Satellite Services as non-core business. Apax Partners intends to pursue the development of the company in Norway and abroad. Telenor Satellite Services offers communication solutions via satellite to land, air and sea. The transaction will not impact the services provided by TSS and business relations with customers will remain unchanged. The transaction is subject to approval from regulatory authorities. Given the current exchange rate for USD, Telenor ASA will be able to post a gain of approximately NOK 1.4 billion from the sale.
