New High-speed Ferry Delivered to Fred. Olsen Express

Fred. Olsen Express has taken delivery of a new high-speed ferry, Bañaderos Express, built by Austal Philippines. Captain Juan Antonio Rojas and the crew of Bañaderos Express formally accepted the vessel from Austal Philippines president and general manager Wayne Murray at a COVID-safe ceremony held at the company’s Balamban, Cebu shipyard.The Austal Auto Express 118 trimaran is the second and final vessel in a A$190 million series ordered by the Canary Islands operator in 2018. The first vessel, Bajamar Express was constructed by Austal Australia and delivered in July 2020.

Spanish Rescuers Searching for Missing Toddler after 6-year-old Girl Found Dead at Sea

Spanish rescuers were searching the waters off the coast of Tenerife for a one-year-old girl on Friday after the body of a six-year-old girl, presumed to be her sister, was pulled from a 1,000-meter depth.Their father, Tomas G., is the main suspect in the disappearance of Olivia, 6, and Anna, 1, after failing to return them to their mother as agreed at the end of April. Austal Philippines in April launched the high-speed trimaran ferry Bañaderos Express for Fred. Austal Delivers Fast Ferry Bajamar Express to Fred. Olsen Express

Shipbuilder Austal Australia has delivered a new 118-meter fast ferry to Fred. Olsen Express.The high-speed trimaran ferry Bajamar Express is the first of two identical vessels ordered by Fred. Olsen Express in a €126 million ($142.8 million) contract in October 2017. The second vessel, Bañaderos Express, is under construction at Austal Philippines shipyard in Balamban, Cebu, and is scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2021.Capable of transporting 1,100 passengers and 276 cars at a cruising speed of more than 37 knots, the new trimaran ferries for Fred.

Fred. Olsen Express, Baleària to Link Huelva and the Canary Islands

Spanish ferry companies Fred. Olsen Express and Baleària, through its alliance Canary Bridge Seaways (CBS), will launch the new route between the Canary Islands and Huelva on November 11.According to a press release from Baleària, there will be three weekly rotations with two vessels that will guarantee a comprehensive, reliable and quality service.The route will be triangular between the ports of Huelva, La Luz in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Departures from the Peninsula will be Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 8 p.m. while from the Canary Islands, they will be Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 12 p.m. from Las Palmas and 8 p.m.

Fifth US Sorghum Vessel Heads to Spain

The RB Eden vessel carrying 70,000 tonnes of U.S. sorghum is heading to the Spanish port of Cartagena, Thomson Reuters Eikon ship-tracking data showed, in what will be a fifth cargo of U.S. sorghum to be diverted from China to Spain.The ship had sailed towards the Spanish Canary Islands after turning around in the Indian Ocean. Cepsa Debuts South Europe's First Multi-product LNG Supply Vessel

Cepsa presented in the Port of Huelva the first multi-product marine fuel supply vessel in southern Europe. The vessel, based in the port of Huelva, will provide ship to ship Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), in addition to traditional fuels: fuel oils and diesel. State-of-the-art technology has been used in its construction including a new fuel measurement system, based on Mass Flow Meters technology, which guarantees the accuracy in the supply of fuel to vessels. UK Cocaine Bust Nets Turkish Sailors 42 years

Two Turkish sailors were jailed for a total of 42 years on Friday after their attempt to smuggle a huge haul of cocaine into Europe was thwarted, partly due to some swift international co-operation between Britain and Tanzania. Some 3.2 tonnes of cocaine, the biggest class A drug find ever made in Britain, was found on a ship intercepted off the east coast of Scotland last year. Drugs worth 512 million pounds ($664 million) were being shipped over to the Netherlands, prosecutors said, after travelling from South America via Guyana and Tenerife. British authorities intercepted the cargo off the coast of Aberdeen in April 2015 after the go-ahead from Tanzania, where the ship was registered, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.

UK Convicts Captain, First Mate of Drug Trafficking

The captain and first officer of an ocean going tug boat have been found guilty of drug trafficking following the biggest ever U.K. seizure of class A drugs, the country’s National Crime Agency (NCA) announced. The cocaine, worth an estimated potential street value of £512 million once adulterated, was found hidden aboard the Tanzanian flagged MV Hamal in April 2015. The vessel had been intercepted by the Royal Navy destroyer HMS Somerset and Border Force cutter HMC Valiant in the North Sea approximately 100 miles off the coast of Aberdeenshire.

ExxonMobil Terminates Seadrill Contract

Exxon Mobil terminates earlier the West Capella working in Nigeria in the Usan Field. John Fredriksen-backed drilling firm Seadrill Partners LLC has received a notice of termination from Exxon Mobil.    In accordance with the cancellation for convenience provisions in the West Capella contract, Seadrill Partners will receive a payment of approximately $125 million in two equal installments, the first in the second quarter of 2016 and the second in the first quarter of 2017, plus other direct costs incurred as a result of the early termination.   The contract was a contract extension for 3 years signed by Total SA that was supposed to end in April 2017.   The West Capella is currently being marketed for new work and is expected to be in Tenerife during its idle period.

APM Terminals Acquires Grup Maritim TCB

APM Terminals announces the agreement to purchase the remaining 39% shareholder of Grup Maritim TCB. On 8 September 2015, APM Terminals announced the agreement with Perez y Cia to acquire their majority share (61%) in Grup Maritim TCB. As a result, APM Terminals has agreed to acquire 100% of the issued shares and to become the sole controlling shareholder of Grup Maritim TCB. The implied enterprise value of the transaction is approximately USD 1 billion with expected capex investments of USD 400 mill over the next 5 years, subject to market conditions. In the short term the acquisition will be ROIC dilutive due to ongoing investments in Guatemala and other growth markets.
