Powering Ahead with a Clean Design

The Shearer Group and Conrad Shipyard collaborate on an ABS approved LNG Towboat Design. What happens next could change inland shipping forever. The December announcement that Conrad Shipyard, L.L.C. and The Shearer Group, Inc. (TSGI) had worked together to develop the design of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) powered 4,200 horsepower towboat utilizing a proven TSGI design was, perhaps, exciting enough on its own merits. That the team had also been awarded an “Approval in Principle” (AIP) by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for the design was especially significant for the nation’s inland waterfront. Packing clean LNG power into an inland towboat was no easy task. And yet, the potential for the concept to blossom in this largely fixed, point-to-point market is very real.

GTT, Conrad Shipyard Ink Deal for LNG Barges and Bunker Tanks

Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) announced that its U.S. subsidiary, GTT North America, has signed a Technical Assistance and License Agreement (TALA) with U.S. shipbuilder Conrad Shipyard for the design and construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) barges and LNG-fueled vessel bunker tanks using GTT's membrane containment systems. Conrad Shipyard received its approval after completing the qualification process including dedicated training of its employees by GTT and the fabrication of a membrane tank model. Freight-Passenger Ferry for Steamship Authority

Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG), a leading naval architecture and marine engineering firm with offices in Seattle, New Orleans and Ketchikan, Alaska, today announced that the new freight and passenger ferry it designed for the Woods Hole, Martha's Vineyard & Nantucket Steamship Authority (SSA) will be built at Conrad Shipyard in Morgan City, Louisiana. “Conrad Shipyard is proud to have been selected along with EBDG to deliver this vessel," said Terry Frickey, C.O.O. of Conrad Shipyard. "Both companies are steeped in a rich tradition of quality and integrity. The new ferry, WOODS HOLE, will replace the M/V GOVERNOR, the oldest vessel in the SSA's fleet.

Conrad Shipyards Earn Two Safety Awards

Conrad Shipyard, L.L.C. has received the 2012 Award for Excellence in Safety as well as the Award for improvement in Safety by the Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA). Conrad was one of only five member organizations to receive both awards. This is the tenth time in the past eleven years that Conrad has received the Award for Excellence.
