HII Taps BlueZone for REMUS AUV Services in Australia

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), the U.S. naval shipbuilder and unmanned systems manufacturer, said Tuesday it had selected its Australian sales partner, BlueZone Group, as an authorized REMUS autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) service center. The Newcastle-based company will provide local support to REMUS AUVs for the Royal Australian Navy and other regional customers.HII and BlueZone Group will host an official agreement signing on May 10, 2022, during the Indo-Pacific International Maritime Exposition at the International Convention Centre in Sydney, Australia.

Cox’s Diesel Outboard Enters Production

UK-based engine manufacturer Cox Powertrain said its purpose-designed 300hp CXO300 diesel outboard engine has entered production following several years of development and testing.Production will commence in Cox Powertrain’s headquarters and assembly and test facilities in Shoreham, West Sussex UK. UK Partners to Launch Autonomous Vessels Testing Service

The U.K.'s first maritime autonomous systems testing service is set to launch later this year. BAE Systems said it has been awarded £457,000 (approximately $594,700) in grant funding from the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to design and deliver the U.K.’s first dedicated autonomous systems testing service. USS Gerald R. Ford on Sea Trials

The future USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) is underway for its first set of sea trials, known as Builder's Sea Trials (BST). Builder's sea trials provide an opportunity to test systems, components and compartments at sea for the first time. Over the next several days, CVN 78 Sailors, shipbuilders from Huntington Ingalls Industries - Newport News Shipbuilding (HII-NNS), the Navy's Supervisor of Shipbuilding and Naval Sea Systems Command personnel will be working side-by-side testing many of the ship's key systems and technologies. "The Navy and our industry partners are excited to have the future USS Gerald R. Ford underway under her own power for the first time, executing a rigorous and comprehensive test program for this first-of-class ship," said Rear Adm.

ABS Notation for Well Test Ops Vessels, MODUs

ABS has issued a series of notations in support of critical well testing activities being undertaken by energy operators worldwide to determine the commercial nature of their reservoirs. The importance of well testing to determine the nature of reservoirs has become even more critical lately as ultra deepwater exploration with pre-salt fields now has operators exploring in water depths surpassing 10,000 feet. Not only is the depth a challenge but also the complexity of the reservoir structures. A vessel or mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU) with the equipment and capabilities to engage in well testing, either short-term or extended, is key in gathering onsite data to determine the size and quantity of the hydrocarbon potential.

Northrop Grumman Redelivers USS Enterprise

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) redelivered the world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise (CVN 65), to the U.S. Navy. The redelivery follows the completion of an Extended Drydock Selected Restricted Availability (EDSRA). The project is the ship's last dry docking before deactivation and was performed by the company's Shipbuilding sector in Newport News, Va. "Enterprise is an extremely complex ship that required an extraordinary effort on the part of the shipbuilding team and the ship's crew to get her through the availability and back in the fight," said Capt.

Northrop Grumman Redelivers USS Carl Vinson

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) redelivered the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), to the U.S. Navy July 11. The redelivery follows the completion of a successful three-and-a-half-year evolution known as a refueling and complex overhaul. The project was performed by the company's Shipbuilding sector in Newport News, Va. and was completed within budget. Redelivery also follows successful sea trials. Sea trials are conducted to test systems, components and demonstrate operations at sea.

Northrop Grumman to Provide Network Systems for Navy

The U.S. Navy has selected Northrop Grumman Corporation to continue providing tactical communication, network, test systems and services that assure that tactical data link systems operate effectively and efficiently. These systems provide the capability to communicate information to enable network-centric warfare operations. Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector provides these products and engineering services to the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), Washington, D.C. The indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract has an initial award value of approximately $6 million, with a ceiling of over $29 million during its five-year period of performance, if all options are exercised.

The Inmarsat Type Approval is the direct result of intensive beta testing carried out onboard three different vessel types sailing in different ocean regions.
